AK-47/74 Adaptive Rail System?AKARS

AK owners, any opinions on this system? Been looking at it pretty hard the last month, seems a really good idea. Always disliked the traditional side mounts and the various hand guard rail mounting systems.

It looks like you are counting on that pin to keep the whole rail zero and there is a lot of potental for leverage on that pin. From a design stand point I don't like it. It doesn't look tough enough.

Check out the UlitMak rail, it replaces the gas tube and seems to be a much sturdier mount.

Yeah, I can see your point on it not looking sturdy enough and possible strain points. Still would love to get hands on with it and see for myself.

I am going to say the same thing again. That dogleg deal *looks* better because it makes an attempt at attaching to the rear of the receiver but its still hinky in my book.

Crudos, this is the sighting device on a weapon that you will attempt to save your own life with, keep that in mind before you attach it to some hinky shit.

Noted TG, thanks. Definitely something I will do more research on before plunking down the cash.

Both of those are insanely expensive. [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at
I have one of these on my AK and it holds a zero great and is solid as fuck.
Plus it's only $40.

only downside is that it doesn't work with folding stocks

I've been fucking around for the past month trying to get a good co-witness on my AK.

All I have to say are two things.

1.  Thank God for eBay.

2.  Just get the Ultimak

Forgot to mention that I've tried the RS 30mm Mount, the MI/US PALM handguard, and a few others.

All AK rifles are built differently.  You just have to find what works for you.

No problems RS, I just don't believe that without meaningful connections there is no point to mounting optics to a rifle.

I will say the same to a guy who is mounting to a two piece on an AR.

I have to agree with ThatGuy. I tried a couple different rail mount options, including the texas weapons systems dogleg rail, and eventually I said "screw it" and picked up a cheap $30 UTG side rail mount, and haven't had a problem since. The rail I have for my handguard would also be a sufficient mounting platform (not sure the brand, but it's made for my saiga, and is VERY sturdy) and it allows me to maintain the use of my iron sights , but I need a little more elevation on the scope so the side rail mount is where it's at for me. AND it works with my folding stock. Only issue I have with it is that I'll have to grind a groove in the top rail and find a different set of rings to use my irons. Of course, it is a QD mount and since it has no problem with zero retention, the scope and mount can go into a dump pouch if I have need of unobstructed iron sights. For what it's worth, the 3-9x40 scope I have mounted is pretty sufficient for anything further than 25ft. Inside 25ft, I'm probably going with a pistol or my saiga 12 anyway.

Thanks for finding that Spirit. Looks solid to these non-expert eyes. Yeah, it's a bit pricey, but not horribly so in the grand scheme of the AK world.

To be honest I don't think $129 is alot. Many people buy $600 aimpoint micro's. I think it looks like a good deal.

I wouldn't trust ANYTHING that "secures" to the dust cover.
There is no way that thing holds a zero, sure it's connected at the rear sight but there is no way that connection at the dust cover is secure. Ever seen slow-mo of an AK firing? that dust cover is a wobbly mother fucker, there's no getting around it.
