A 1 woman man??????
« on: January 24, 2015, 08:07:16 PM »
So Ive always thought I was a one woman man and with that the AK47 would always be the woman for me. I got my first ak in 1999 and haven't looked back since. Since I a man :), I never jumped on the ar wagon and the 74 kept my away because ammo was harder to get if I wanted to pick it up locally. I was just about to purchase another ak and some more x39 ammo, when all of a sudden I started thinking........  Last year it seemed pretty simple and happened very quickly that the government was able to stop the importation of 7N6. What would happen it they decided to do that across the board with all  foreign ammo importation!? Very few domestic manufacturers make it and what is made is pretty expensive!!! Have any of you ak guys thought about this? I know its the all your eggs in one basket thing here.  Ar's and mags are at a very good price now..... its made me have a wandering eye....  what do you think? should i cheat or stay faithful   lol

Get the AR.  They actually play well with each other and are happy sharing you, and each others company.

By now, you guys should have dozens of sealed spam cans.

I don't need anymore ammo than what I have. Not to mention. My AKs will out live the AR fan boys even if they have replacement parts.

You could just switch to an M1A.

My brother, former Marine infantry with two combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq under his belt, preferred the AR when he got home. He decked it out...put like $2,500 into it and accessories. Last year, he traded it for an AK. Loved the AK so much more. Right around Christmas, he bought a Springfield M1A. He could barely talk straight to me he was so impressed and excited after shooting it. He couldn't stop talking about how pleased he was that it has both accuracy and that increased power of a .30 cal. He has made it his go to rifle, and is going to sell his AK.

I wouldn't be saying all this in this manner, usually, but my brother is the real deal. He's no SEAL, but he has mastered all the basics a rifleman needs to know.

Just food for thought. Do what you want. ;-)

Reaver can also attest to the strengths of the M1A platform, I believe. I think the AK is a better choice for his particular area, though. IIRC, his AO is a dirty place, and doesn't afford many opportunities for 100+ yard shots. So an AK would be perfect for him. Pick the rifle that is perfect for you.

I would not hesitate to grab an M1A if I could afford to feed it.

Hear me out.

Yaya I know " but reaver checkmate is the company that the army uses to manufactur their magazines for use in combat "
Well, the army also uses the lowest bidder. IMO and from experience once again the M1As really prefer factory magazines. Some say that checkmate even makes the " factory magazines " but the US govt. also claimed to make the shitters on my FOB but they only oversaw the hadj contractors doing it.

The M1A has been and always will be a worthy and battle proven rifle. It's amazing in every regard if the civilian can afford it. Keep in mind terrain and situation dictates a lot of my opinions and experience. My battle field is filled with heavy brush and Palm trees. We learned a heavy brush lesson in Vietnam the extremely fast 22 long rifle doesn't do the job. The caliber is needed to punch through the vegetation. My fields of engagement are at their longest 200 meters. In between that 200 meters is more brush and Palm/pine/oak.

You're right, the M1A requires mucho dineros to equip properly and feed. However, my reasoning has always been that you're only ever going to carry 1 long gun with you. I'd rather it be the one that can do pretty much everything. The only real downside I can see are ammo prices (sometimes), and magazine capacity. However, I've heard from my bro, who purchased 25 round Checkmate Industries mags, that they have worked fine for him. YMMV

He also purchased a Sage stock for it, which is half again the cost of the rifle, but he said that with the stock it is more ergonomic and also mitigates the recoil further, making it kick about as much as a .223. From a .308, that had me drooling.

It's a great machine. No denying that.

He may have 39 dollar magazines and a 700 dollar stock. Make sure he has a good 10 or so of these http://www.midwayusa.com/product/928941/sadlak-m1a-m14-usgi-combination-tool-steel-matte
If he wants to keep it as his " only " rifle for life.

He'll need one.

Luckily, the AKs just need fed maybe a handful of of Pistons and springs.

How true........Do continue........
Peened firing pins are what I've encountered with the M1A....

Whats the issue with an M-1 (no alphabet after it) that is a 1945 Springfield.  I figure the first 15 hoodlums that come in on the homestead passing the 300 yard line are not making it to 250.  I am confident enough that I have depression already made there for their long term visit.  I don't need no alphabet rifle.

But after 15, my shoulder would be sore enough I would let them come on to 200 and double tap with the AR.  Assuming anyone else wanted to visit.  I figure most would realize they were not welcome.
