Maybe I should have put this in the tinfoil hat section. EL-WACKO speaks. As Bugs Bunny says "What a maroon"
http://thefederalistpapers.org/us/cnn-trump-might-cause-asteroid-hit-earth-2-weeksIf you didn’t think the mainstream media were fear mongers when they told you everyone would die because of the changes to net neutrality or because of lower taxes, then you won’t be surprised by the latest rhetoric.
CNN recently suggested the planet could be struck by an asteroid because of the government shutdown.
Reporter Tom Foreman spoke to CNN’s Jake Tapper on Friday, as the infamous countdown clock ticked towards a government shutdown, and listed the things that would be affected.
“If there is no deal as these negotiations stand right now, nearly 800,000 undocumented immigrants who came as children, the so-called DREAMers would be thrust into a dangerous legal limbo,” he said. “So would nine million children covered by Children’s Health Insurance Program, CHIP. But plenty of other Americans who have nothing to do with any of that could also feel the impact.”
“850,000 government workers locked out of their offices and left out of their paychecks,” he continued. “That’s what happened when the government shut down in 2013 and it would likely be the same this time. Including many who don’t make much.”
Foreman did point out that the majority of essential government services would remain intact during the shutdown.
“Roughly 1.9 million government workers would be considered essential and stay on the job,” he said. “Air traffic controllers, security officers, food inspectors, prison guards, Social Security checks would go out. The post office would be open. But at a steep price to many workers.”
But then he began his fear mongering by saying that the Centers For Disease Control would be affected at the height of a particularly tough flu season.
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would back down its flu tracking program even as the nation faces the worst outbreak in years,” he said. “Some senior nutrition programs would be paused. 200,000 passport applications went unprocessed in 1995. Congress funds much of the scientific research done in this country. In 2013, that meant some experiments went on hold in 2013 and suffered costly losses of data.”
Then he went on to hint that the planet could be in danger of an asteroid strike,
“And in space that same year, for more than two weeks, NASA reportedly stopped monitoring potentially dangerous asteroids,” Foreman said. “A big one, by the way, is expected to brush by Earth on February fourth.”
Tapper and Foreman both deserve credit for keeping straight faces during this ridiculous conversation but that does not negate how insane it was.
CNN took the same track when it reported on the government shutdown of 2013.
Two U.S. astronauts in space, and their support staffs on Earth, will keep working through the government shutdown that began Tuesday.
But almost all the rest of NASA has been shuttered, just one of many federal agencies affected when the government shut down at midnight Tuesday because of Congress’ inability to pass a budget.
Many of those agencies took to social media and other online venues to share the news. Twitter was a popular choice for the messages.
Among them? If an asteroid starts hurtling toward Earth … well … good luck.
“In the event of government shutdown, we will not be posting or responding from this account,” NASA’s Near Earth Object Office tweeted from its @AsteroidWatch account Monday, just hours before the deadline in Congress. “We sincerely hope to resume tweets soon.”
The office is responsible for tracking and reporting asteroids that threaten the planet, like the 150-foot chunk of space rock that came closer to Earth than the moon in February.[/quote]
