fuck you SK. I think the 500 is a bit silly except for a novelty item, BUT, dammit I've been lusting after some revolvers lately. I spent almost an hour earlier today google-imaging S&W revolvers...

If you end up with a 500, you ought to name it "pink mist."

I can't quit watching this video. >:D

definitely won't be a 500. I'm thinking 686, or if I'm feeling frisky and have a heavy wallet, a model 27. there's just something about that classic 27.... fucking beautiful. (4" though, I think the 6" is a little too "you feelin' lucky, punk?" [IKNOW IKNOW... that's a .44])

Yeah, great manstoppers. But can they take down a grizzly.... or a humvee.... in one shot.... every time?

Yeah I think the high powered pistols from the Desert Eagle to the SW 500 are nothing but novelty items and why on earth would you want a over powered and over priced novelty item.

yes sir
infact when the 357magnum came out they went around the world killing shit with it

1935 major douglas wesson
antelope 200 yards (2 shots)
elk 130 yards (1 shot)
Moose - 100 yards (1 shot)
Grizzly Bear - 135 yards (1 shot)

1938 walther sykes
wildebeast 100 yards- complete penetration knockdown on the first shot

1938 Sasha Siemel
6 Tigres - Amazon Jaguar's

and yet people tell my 300win mag is the minimum for elk  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

quit letting technology and larger calibers make up for not being proficient with your weapon
pick a gun learn to use it and it will do anything you need it to do

@mountainredneck2051

Yeah the .357mag is certainly capable...but is it capably certain?  Say you got a grizzly (or humvee) charging from say 50 yards.  You know with it moving and at that distance you're going to aim center mass (or engine block).  Do you really feel like the .357 is going to come close to the damage of the .500?  I didn't think so.

Believe me, I'm not trying to tout the practicality of the S&W .500,  but only the one shot destructive certainty it provides.

how many rounds do you have through a 500 S&W?
how many vehicles have you disabled with a firearm?
how many grizzlies have you seen in person?
how many animals over 500 pounds have you taken?

we can bs about ballistics and internet rumors all we want, but the hard facts is 357 has been enough on grizz moose ect back in 1938
animals haven't gotten tougher in fact our 357 loads have just gotten stronger

in 1938 a hot loaded 357 could penetrate an entire wildebeest
in 2012 a hot loaded modern 357 should do significantly more

All I'm saying is, try recreate what's in the video with any .357/ammo combination you like.  Not gonna happen.

::) Oh, please do expound upon the evils of watermelon shooting. ::)

You do realize this topic was posted under trench humor...right?

I think you (and NOLA) may have missed the point of the OP, which was: S&W .500 make watermelons go poof!  Other handguns don't.

Don't get S&W. Get a Ruger.

I have a Super Blackhawk and it is my favouite gun in the whole wide world. You see Ruger revolvers don't have the prestiege that the Smiths have, and thus they cost less. ALOT less. I bought my beautiful Blackhawk .44 used for $460. A S&W model 29 will go for around $1000.

And what gets me is that the Rugers are built BETTER than the Smiths. Blackhawks/Redhawks are overbuilt and can take as hot a load as you can handle and ask for more. And if you want .357 ballistics you can always use .44 specials. And I reload so .44 ammo costs the same as any other handgun bullet for me.

I just rewatched this and picked up on something that I missed the first time around.  Did you notice the fear in their little watermelon eyes?
