Everyone talks about beans and lentals*YUCK* but no-one talks about split peas. You don't have to have a ham bone to make soup, if you need to you can use one of those approxamately 1lb+ canned hams. I love split pea soup but can't stand lentals. My order of small mylar bags and oxagen absorbers just came in so I'll be bagging up my beans and split peas. I still have to by salteens and crackers for the soup.

Forget the saltines and go with Ritz. Much better cracker.

I was brought up on split pea soup. Once MrsMac and I were a "number" I only ate bean soups.
Picked up a bag of split peas because I had a hm bone in the freezer and made split pea soup using my navy bean recipe. It turned out great! MrsMac said, "I'm not eating that...It's GREEN!"
Well we had nothing else to eat so she tried it and liked it.
