Onan 2.5kw gen set
« on: September 06, 2013, 12:34:53 PM »
What have I done?

While surfing the local Junk shops I saw this gem sitting in the back, unloved and unwanted. The name plate says its a 2.5kw gen set hooked up to a 5hp Onan LK motor. This thing makes 120/240v AC power. Not sure how I am going to incorporate it into the Alt-Power system because it is AC and the batteries are all DC but I will find a way.

Now I've got to find the parts that are missing  :faint:

Bachelors need a project  :dancingBanana:

Before we were on the grid; we use our generator to top off the deep cycle batteries and run power tools.

We can run our cabin without "grid juice" if we have to with ease; however, if we wanted to we could "back feed" the cabin with the generator. Just have to make sure the main house breaker is turned off so we don't give a nice shock to a lineman.  ;)

Have fun.

I have the same generator,
my opinion is they are one of the best!
if i remember that generator runs at 1800 rpm,  they are heavy but will last forever !
If you want DC you could adapt a alternator to it !

So far I've collected manuals and found about half of the parts.

The good news is it turns over as pretty as you please and does so with either rope or battery power.

I need the other parts and to make a cart for it, damn thing is heavy!!
