MrsMac and I got back to the cabin on Saturday after a L.O.N.G. stint in Rhode Island. Negotiated for 15 lobster's and 10#'s of little neck clams from a lobster boat earlier in the week which we picked up on Saturday on the way to the cabin. Our trip was dubbed the Lobster Express by the folks coming to the clam bake.
We have a good friend who had on his "bucket list" a New England clam boil. Well he can now check this one off that list.
My main reason for posting this story and accompanying photo other then to model the new UP moral patch is to talk about dealing as close as possible to the folks who catch or grow your food. Cost of lobster in the store is $10.99 a pound locally. I paid $5.99 a pound direct from a lobster-man.
In the local grocery store little necks are going for $3.99 a pound. Direct from the lobster-man $2.50 a pound.
Adding to the great prices, the bugs and shellfish were VERY FRESH. Thursday and Friday these critters were still in the ocean.
So support your local farmer/fisherman. Buy direct from them.
