I'm not going to hype this as being "refrigerator cold," but it'll keep your stuff a lot cooler than anything else aside from digging a root cellar in the event of no electricity. For less than $20 I bought two large pots, a bag of sand, and a lid. Just keep in mind if you make one you'd need to keep it in doors during the winter or the frost will crack the earthenware pots.

Damn good post my man, damn good.

Thanks. I'll be trying to add more on gardening as well as sharing some home dyi projects I've been working on.

Another great low tech option is the Zeer Pot fridge. This has been used in a lot of third world countries for a while. It's also another good use for your "grey water"

Wow! How cool is that? Oh, wait, 52 degree's. lol
Good post Veritas. I hadn't ever seen that.

Actually, after reading the original link, it's pretty much the same damn thing. My bad.
Sorry to steal your thunder WhiteWolf. *facepalms*

My bad too Whitewolf. Veritas led me astray. (Do I sound like Obama blaming someone else for my lack of observation or what? lol)
It's a great idea no matter who found it. I'm thinking having a couple of those huge clay pots on hand would be a good idea.
