Title: I've got eggs!

My chickens have started laying!  They're smaller, but that'll change over the next couple weeks.  So tickled pink! I do the "happy dance" every time I go out to the coop and find an egg.  Now if I could just get them to start laying in the nest boxes... :)

Put a golf ball or fake Easter egg in the nest boxes. They like to lay where the eggs are.

I have ceramic eggs in the nest boxes.  I did catch one hen while she was nesting and I popped her into a nest box.  She seemed actually thrilled in there.  Did you know that chickens purr?  I had read that they do, but I never heard it before! Total of four eggs today.

Chickens are super cool.. in the evenings my mom will have a smoke with her 'ladies' they sit against the wire of the coop leaning against my mom and coo.. or purr. It's pretty neat to see. Are you learning to speak chicken yet Wellie?

I am definitely learning to speak chicken.  I know the "I'm pissed because..." cluck, the little bubbly chirps prior to egg laying, and all the wonderful little sounds of bedtime. It's fascinating!

I was at my Mom's this weekend and as I walked in I asked if she and Dad had had breakfast. They said no so I got squared away in front of the stove and started cracking eggs.. she left her ceramic eggs in the bowl to fuck with me. Hell of a shell on those eggs Ma!
