I read more than one fourm on survival and one thing I haven't seen anyone mention is a HOT FRAME. When I had my large garden I would start my seeds in one. The main ingrediant is manure. My frame was permenent but temporary ones are used also. Here is a Bing search for it.

These are especially useful if there is a premium on sunny windows in your house.
