When the United States was at the TOP of the international buying market , we could compete against anyone and buy anything to make-up for a bad season. Now, we we are routinely DEPENDENT UPON IMPORTED >FOOD< FUEL AND CRITICAL MATERIALS, but our dollar is not necessarily strong and we - as a nation - are seen by many as a pariah State. In short, we are far less able to simply whip out the checkbook and make our problems go away.
Food has absolute global value. On-the-other-hand , as a friend of mine used to say about paper dollers:
"Used paper is 50 cents a ton, I don't care WHAT is printed on it."
These days, the central banksters routinely skip even using paper.
