Septic System Serviced - One Less Thing On The "Lockdown Punch List"

As we are moving into Phase 2 of The Great Reset rollout, I am getting ready for the State or Federal lockdown coming our way. 

> We are building up our food supplies,
> Making sure we have plenty of wood for heat and emergency cooking,
> Finishing up the solar system,
> Getting up-supplied in meds,
> Having our septic system serviced...

The septic system is one area that most people forget.

I called my local honey bucket company last week and requested that if they are in my area over the next 2-weeks, I need my septic system serviced. Yesterday, I received a call at about 1600 hrs. letting me know that he was in the area and would like to drop by. Thirty-minutes later, he was here and did the deed. One more thing done on my "lockdown punch list".

As a rule of thumb, it is recommended that your septic system be inspected and pumped if necessary, every 4-years. If you have a septic system, when was yours last serviced?

Thinking about you folks on town sewage - What is your plan if your sewage plant quits?

Johnny, you and I are on the same wavelength. So far, we built the house 26 years ago and the septic tank hasn't shown any signs on needing any help. With that said, I do pour a quart of some very expensive special liquid into the toilet about once a year. Its supposed to find its way out to the drain field and dissolve any of the tar like substance that causes backups at the tank. Now, on to the preps. I have pretty much all the food and other supplies that I need for a long term situation and lately I've been adding a bit of food and things for when the neighbors come knocking because they're hungry or need hygiene items. Besides being well stocked on TP, I also just added 20 more rolls of Paper Towels to my other 24 rolls. All the prepper books say that Paper Towels aren't necessary because we can use a regular cloth and just wash it. That's true but as long as I can afford paper towels I will continue to use them. You wouldn't believe how many AA and AAA batteries I have. I use as many devices as possible with rechargeable Lithium batteries but myself and the neighbors are definitely going to need those Alkaline batteries. I've got everything I need for my emergency solar system but I just can't seem to get motivated enough to haul it outside and set it up. I've got a buddy up the road who told me to call him when I'm ready and he'll help me set it up. I pretty much can do everything except mount the panels to my south facing Deck. I'm fairly certain that we are moving rapidly into somethiong really bad. I made a promise to myself that I would never pay more than $25 oz. for Physical Silver so I guess I've got all that I'm going to get.

 Ours was pumped out a couple of years ago.  We mostly use a bidet, which cuts down on semi-solids going into the tank.  As a back-up we could use the composting toilet in our tiny cabin.  I really should build an outhouse, as a back-up to our back-up.  You haven't lived until you've placed your butt on an outhouse toilet seat when the ambient temperature is -40F.  It's very refreshing!

LOL, You haven't lived until you've placed your butt on an outhouse toilet seat when the ambient temperature is -40F. Yeah Brother! Never did -40 but -20' F regularly when we had an outhouse at the early days of the cabin. Brrrrrrrr!

   The worst time was when I was doing the prep for a colonoscopy, which required an extended time outdoors.  Plus, the walk to the outhouse was a couple hundred feet from the house.  Not good!

Bwahaha...... I had to take that medicine for a colonoscopy. I had the Carolina 2 step  all night. I would never have made it to an outhouse.

Keep an old pair of worn-out heavy socks handy, lay one sock on each side of the seat. The real old-time method was to keep the whole seat next to the woodstove. Just don't forget to take it with you, you'll only do that once! 

Check out the Humanure Handbook if you haven't already. https://humanurehandbook.com/ I know several people who use this method as their only toilet, far superior to an outhouse but requires more ongoing maintenance, as opposed to the up-front labor of building an outhouse. Also a good security measure that avoids having to go outside at night.

If our sewer system goes out, at least I'm on top of the hill!  It would be an absolute nightmare for anyone who couldn't leave town, because part of the system requires pumps, and if they fail, eventually any runoff from the sewer will make its way into the town's water source. We'll be at the farm by then, using the above method.
