Title: TAPRN Net
Post by: pkveazey on October 30, 2016, 03:46:05 PM
Don't miss out on the TAPRN net tonight at 9 PM Eastern time, on 3.818Mhz(thereabouts). Early check ins start at 8. If you check in early, you'll be near the top of the list and won't have to wait All night to make your comments. The Corntasters have been trying up the band's all weekend so you may have to look around for Ruth.

Because of the DX contest it is at 3.810 Mhz tonight. With that written propagation on 80 meter, at least where I am sucks (Ham Radio Technical term for poor listening quality). I was able to check in though even with all the whistles and static.

The topic tonight is "Lighting when the power goes out." Plus, "how do you hide your light."

Yupper JoJo.

One guy just mentioned that post Hurricane Matthew, he fired up his generator and was inundated with people banging on his door to recharge "their" batteries. Just the sound of the generator was enough to bring out the Zombies.

I will fill you in on other stuff too.

Nothing really new in the world of lighting.

> Solar side walk lights,
> Rechargeable batteries,
> Tea candles,
> Florescent 12 volt lights,
> Et cetera.

I did a short segment on Aladdin Lamps which I have covered before.

I did enjoy folks comments about keeping lights inside and not allowing the glow to escape. Made sense to me. One guy suggested red 12 volt or battery lights which I liked. Wouldn't matter close to your house but lets say 100 yards out and further, you would never see it.

After I spoke I dropped off because as i mentioned, the Frequency was very noisy tonight.

I checked in and mentioned pretty much the same ideas as the others but I also mentioned having lots of extra lightbulbs on hand. Too bad if you have juice but no bulbs to light up. The last two nets had decent subjects. Don't bail out on them when they pick a really lame subject. Just show up at the next net and hope it's a good subject. They have talked about weapons on occasion, but it's rare. They pretty much feel like every prepper has already got what they need. After buying a generator, getting a couple of long guns and a couple of handguns was next. Then I got into the food thing. Then the bugout, living in the woods stuff. Then a 4X4 and trailer to get me to the woods. Then all the medical and health stuff. On and on it goes. I hope I never need it. If I don't, I'll pass it all on to the grandkids. By that time the country will certainly be in the toilet.

The net will be on 3.821.00 Mhz tonight. I do not know what the discussion will be about this evening. Once I now I will fill you in.

Propagation is poor tonight and we are getting a lot of bleed over from other stations. If we switch to a different Frequency I will let you know.

I am hearing Ruth AC4BZ just fine now. If she calls off the net do to propagation issues (She can only hear 20% of the folks who have checked in), and you are reading this, lets convene on this frequency (3.817.00 Mhz) at 2110 EST 0110 Zulu. I will call CQ. If it is taken over switch to 3.968 Mhz where I will call CQ there.

My call is KC1FWU.
