Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.

Psalm 144:1-2

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

God created Man, Col. Sam Colt made him equal, John Moses Browning turned equality to perfection, Gaston Glock turned perfection into plastic fantastic junk.

In principle, no less than in practice, socialism is the ideology of thieves and tyrants.

Yup, too bad the FCC eliminated the code requirement.  I obtained all my licenses while the code requirement was still in effect.  I rarely use it, but a key is included in at least one of my go boxes.  Morse code knowledge has helped when flying aircraft, as some of the navigation devices identify themselves with Morse code.  I won't say it's a dying skill, but there's a lot less Morse code activity on the bands, especially with the advent of the digital modes.  Morse code is the first digital mode.

I have had my license since 2011 and went General in 2013.  I have started several times in learning the code using the K6RAU course

http://kj6art.com/?page_id=76

but then loose interest and have to pick up again when I get the itch for it.

But I don't have an HF transceiver.  I have a Yaesu VX-8DR and have made exactly one contact with it.   https://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/0008.html  now discontinued.  I have used it quite a bit for the APRS capability.

But what I really like to do is listen.  Reminds me of listening in on the phone when we had "Party Lines" on what now is called land lines.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_line_(telephony)

I set up a http://www.buddipole.com/ and hook it up to my Eton E1 single side band receiver.  Eton E1 also discontinued.
Makes me feel a bit old.

Those Buddipoles are okay antennas, but you'll hear more with a wire antenna.  I have a Buddipole I use on DXpeditions, but I usually put up a wire antenna too.

True enough RM plus there are a lot of computer programs and decoders out there too. With that written there is nothing better than sitting there with a 'Bug' or 'Straight Key' and having a conversation with someone on the other side of the globe.

Bug Key

Straight Key

It use to be one had to know code and how to use a key to get their amateur radio license.
