Replacement and repair.
« on: September 14, 2021, 11:43:06 PM »
Well, I've pretty much decided to order a new IC 7300 from HRO but I can't see me chunking the other one in the trash. I seem to remember somebody on the Phone net mentioning a place in NY State that was a whiz at fixing ICOMS. Can someone give me the information on that company? I could just order a whole new board from ICOM but I have no idea what they would charge and I can't be certain that would cure my issue. :what:

I've sent some Icom radios to this place:

Icom Authorized Service Center ? Michigan
SAR Technical Services, Inc.
1792 Nash Drive
St. Joseph, MI 49085
Phone: (269) 429-2334

The repair costs were reasonable and I had the radios back within a couple of weeks.  They were great to deal with.

The repair center that Johny used is in Syracuse; NY specializes on Kenwood gear.

PKv,
I shared your issue with a friend who is an IC-7300 aficionado. He shared with me this link that speaks to a small fuse inside the transceiver on the board that may be the issue.

I am posting this here to save for other folks who may have this issue in the future.

Yea, I chased the voltages from the Power supply to the input cable and then to the 5 Amp internal fuse. After the 5 Amp Fuse the voltage goes off into never never land on those tiny wire traces. Anyway, I just placed my order to HRO for a new radio. I'll eventually just send the other one off for repair. That damned IC 7300 really spoiled me. Using the IC 718 is no longer as much fun. I'm keeping at least one IC 718 because its wide open if I need it.

Latest Update: HRO said that they would be getting some more IC 7300's in October. I just happened to look at the Woodbridge store and the "Buy" button was the right color for them being in stock. I ordered a new one on the 28th and it arrived on the 30th. I just finished hooking everything up and listened to 40 meters for a little while. Everything seems to work but I haven't tried to make any contacts yet. I think that I'll eventually send the broken IC 7300 off to be repaired.

Well Pkveazey inspired me.  I ordered a new 7300 as well.  It should be in Monday.  If things work out I should be able to check in the net on Tuesday. I have the IC-7100, but the features on the 7300 and the price pushed me over the edge. I also will be applying for the rebate.  I finally got the one for the 7100 after about six months.  It takes a lot of persistence to be successful with Icom and their rebates. See you on the net.
