Opening up a UV5R
« on: September 27, 2022, 08:58:27 PM »
If anyone has one of the new versions of the UV5R Handi-Talkies and wants to open up the frequencies, I got this off of You Tube. Make sure the radio is turned OFF. Hold the PTT button, the Monitor button (just below the PTT), and the MEM/VFO all at the same time and the turn the radio on. I haven't had to open any of mine up so I suppose you keep holding the buttons down until the radio comes on and then you release them. You can check You Tube for more info on thgis procedure. I've got 2 more UV5R's coming from AMAZON on Thursday and the frequencies are supposed to be open already. If not, I'll try the buttons trick. The 2 that I ordered come with the regular accessories but they also are thowing in an extra better antenna with each radio. I couldn't belive the price was about $23 each.

Say What?? The 2 UV5R's that I ordered showed up a day early. I connected them to the computer CHIRP program and programmed them and then topped off the batteries with the charger. They were about $23 each and they threw in an extra long additional antenna. I checked one of them out and they hit the local 2 meter repeater about 15 miles North of me but the receive wasn't all that super good. I could actually hit the 440 repeater at the same distance without going outside.
