Update June 23, 2020 PACE

With most of the country moving to Daylight Saving's Time and the onslaught of warmer weather, most folks are staying outside and working on projects till dusk; Consequently, many folks would like to make the net but are missing it. Starting June 2, 2020 the net's PACE will change to below.

The net will be at 2000 hrs eastern every Tuesday with the primary band being 40-meters. The alternate will be on 80-meters. The frequencies are listed below.

I am not aware of how busy this frequency or near-by frequencies will be so, I suspect we will be moving up the band to find clean air. Be prepared. Hopefully if we move, I will post the new frequency in real time here.

If you are new to the net please read the rules of engagement below and be prepared to make your report as outlined below too.

2000 hrs eastern
Primary          7.238 Mhz LSB
Alternate        3.975 Mhz LSB
Contingency  This email thread
Emergency    Text. Do I have your cell number? PM me if you want my cell number.

I would like to thank all of the folks here who are participating in the nightly net. To help in having a smooth net going forward, I have put together the following "rules of engagement". Please share with any like minded folks who might check-in or just want to listen.

1) I will be on frequency 15-minutes before the net starts for pre-check-ins. If there is a lot of splatter or someone is using this frequency, move on up the band till you hear the group. I will try to post the new frequency on this thread.
2) I will call CQ followed by my call and "this is net control for the ERIN Daily Net". It would be great if folks could check in early so not to have a mad rush at the start of the net. If you are late to the net, no worries. I will ask for additional check-ins several times during the net. PLEASE wait till I do this.
3) The net is a "directed net" which means; check-in and do not talk till net control calls your call.
4) Once a station makes their report and you have a question or want to make a comment say "CONTACT". Net control will recognize you and either let you ask your question or make your comment IF there is no other priority traffic waiting. Be patient.
5) Once you are called to give your report you will make a modified "BORIS/CYRIL" report
     A) Location
     B) Traffic to report *
     B) Weather Report
     C) Wuhan Virus report
     D) Unrest in your AO if any
     E) Request for help if needed
6) After the net is closed people may want to stay on air and use the frequency to ragchew which is great and I will probably join in. With that written, the reason for this net is to share information not ragchew. Save that for after the net.

If you have any questions or wish to make a comment, use this thread.

* It is encouraged that if you hear someone and net control obviously can not, say CONTACT. Once recognized say "I have traffic for insert call sign here this is insert your call sign here". As an example: "I HAVE TRAFFIC FROM KA7FOX THIS IS KC3LRS".

Central Florida station here.  I could hear you.  Lots of static.  Did not hear first couple of stations as you opened the net

Hey!

Did you try the 40-meter or 80-meter net Tom Paine?

The 40-meter net had about six folks while the 80-meter net only had one.

Nothing really new form both nets other than a new confirmed case of the Kung Fu Flue that has been announced just outside of Fort Bragg. He is in his 50's.

I hope you try again this evening.

Was first check in on 40.   Could not hear the other check ins but you were strong.   Tried 80 but noise level was super high.

Am using an nvis antenna that was built in a Bush Beater Rto class.

I attempted to check in multiple times on 40 meters.  I didn't hear anyone on 75 meters.

Yeah, this evening sucked on 40-meters. I looked at the Doppler Radar and their was a bunch of nastyness going through TN, NC and south. My one TN station that makes it each night was poor. He did a great job doing relays from FL Tom Paine.

Till tonight \"/

Great voice nets JM. I have only one suggestion and I suspect you already considered this. It is sometimes impossible to hear other nearby stations. Due to the possible importance of the info to the stations listening I might suggest a full read back policy since we are submitting formal reports per the net SOI. Often I’ve noted I am in their skip zone. The second reason is a training point. Using formats like BORIS is good training. Normally the receive station will give a full readback for format messages such as those. I understand not every station is doing that so it isn’t always appropriate.
It may be that time does not permit this. As we get further along in this crisis the reports may require reading numbers for grid coordinates, phone numbers or brevity codes.
I want to say you are doing a great job with the nets and I truly appreciate the contact and effort you put into this.

Well, I missed the Kung Fu Flu nets yesterday and today because the grass was getting so high that it looked like I was on vacation. I just had to cut it just to keep the neighbors from coming to see if I had died. I'll do my best to be on the net tomorrow.

Well, I made the Friday net but missed the Saturday net because I was power washing the front porch. I figured I'd catch the Sunday net but then I remembered it was Easter and there wouldn't be one. I'll do my best to catch Monday's net.

I could only copy maybe 30% of Monday's transmissions, due to QRM and static crashes.  Weather is good today in my AO, just a little cooler than normal.  Will be listening again this afternoon, hopefully conditions will be a little better.

Due to a prior commitment, I will not be able to take on the roll as net control April 23, 2020. I would love to have one of the regulars take over the roll tomorrow night. One for the 40-meter net and one for the 80-meter net. Or if you are up to it, both nets. Who ever volunteers, I will send to you the net control preamble. Please send a PM if you volunteer. Thank you.

Today is the first day that I've been able to copy net control during the past 4-5 days due to band conditions.  Hopefully conditions will continue to improve.
