Looking forward I am looking for NCS's (Net Control Station) for both up coming digital and phone ERIN nets. The reason I am reaching out for volunteers are,
> To give folks an opportunity to practice being a NCS,
> For all of us to see how others do the net. We can all learn, and
> I will not be around all the time. Heck, I might get hit by an electric vehicle. ;)
So far I have one volunteer for phone. Thank you Jackalope! If you would like to volunteer, PM me here at UP.
Here is the SOI for this coming Tuesday's net.
The next ERIN net will be Tuesday June 29, 2021, starting at 1900 hrs. eastern with the digital ERIN net. The PACE for that net is as follows,
1) At 1900 hrs. eastern the digital net will commence.
Primary 7.110 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250 1000 on the Waterfall
Alternate 3.588 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250 1000 on the Waterfall
Contingency This email thread
Emergency Text. Do I have your cell phone number?
When the Net Control Station (NCS) calls for check-in's this is the reporting format,
de your call/name/location/emergency traffic/ de your call
Once the NCS has gathered check-in's he/she will post the check-in's for corrections or additional check-in's.
The NCS will then start the reports portion of the digital net. Report format will be,
de your call/name/location/traffic if any/your report for around your AO, Covid, unrest, military movement, etc/weather/de your call
2) At 2000 hrs the voice net will commence.
Primary 7.238 Mhz LSB or higher till clear air
Alternate 3.968 Mhz LSB or higher till clean air
Contingency This email thread
Emergency Text. Do I have your cell phone number?
The above SOI will be used at first, if the interwize is taken down through Executive Order -- Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions.

Folks, don't forget the nets tonight!
-
Well, its 5:45 PM and the wife just came into the hobby room and said, "We can go out and eat if you want." Hmmmm ...... What are the odds that we'll be back in time for the ERIN net? I'd say, Slim to None.
-
I got lucky and got back from supper about 3 minutes before the net. It was a good net tonight. I could hear everyone just fine.
-
Here is my AAR on this evenings net.
Digital we had 4 folks who checked in including me. Nobody other than I gave a report. I worry that I scared folks off LOL.
Phone net we had 4-folks too. I heard all pretty good.
I guess with the sun setting later and the weather nice, folks forget to check in.
Thanks to all that checked in.
73 & God Bless

I could hear everyone well this evening. Mike was booming in, as usual.
-
I heard everyone pretty well. There was a good bit of atmospheric noise at my location, but it wasn't horrible.
Mike
-
A lot of storms in the area today, so probably won't be on the air tonight. Would at some point like to take another shot at NCS on the digital net if you still need folks for that. Just, you know, not today. I learned my lesson with lightning... :))
-
Ahem... uh, gentlemen... might this be bumped back an hour (or three)? I live in Arizona (you might not know that but any alphabet agency interested enough to monitor one more cell of Biden's "Greatest Threat" knows not only where I live but what kind of toothpaste I buy...).
My CCrane ain't picking much up (only have the short reel antennae that came with it).
Fixing to try a 100ft + of 20 gauge stranded run up the hill to ridgeline but still...
What is the farthest you guys are reaching out (in OK atmospheric conditions)?
Anybody know of other check-in frequencies/times further out west?
Thanks!
-
DUE TO A PARKS ON THE AIR STATION PARKED ON 7.238 MHZ LSB, THE NET THIS EVENING WILL BE ON 7.240 MHZ LSB WHICH IS CLEAR AT THIS POSTING.
THERE ARE A LOT OF THUNDER CLOUDS FROM WESTERN TENN TO THE CANADIAN BORDER. IF YOU ARE CHECKING IN ON PHONE, I UNDERSTAND IF YOU ARE IN THEN OUT.

Felix, We were having the Phone Net at 7PM Eastern Time and the band was not open enough to be effective. So Johnny moved the Digital to 7 and the Phone to 8 and that seems to work better. Now..... You are on the right track with a longer piece of wire. I'm going to suggest 130' piece of wire for the hot lead and another 130' piece of wire for the ground side. That would be a 160 meter dipole and they seem to work very well on just about any band. Since its a listening antenna, the small gauge is not going to hurt your ability to receive.
-
Good Net tonight. I heard everyone OK and only had to use 1 filter to hear well.
-
WH Central Florida station here. Copied NCS report fine even with static in background. I was running an off center dipole in NVIS configuration so glad you could hear me. Storms in the area and storms between our station I suspect.
-
Hey Tom...Your dis great with your NVIS. You made contact in NE PA but faded into the the weeds BUT got most of your TX.
Glad to have you on board.
-
Felix,
Just curious, is your Crane radio SSB (Single Side Band) compliant? If it isn't, you may make out a word or two but, most of it will be garbage. We are broadcasting on SSB. LSB (Lower Side Band) to be more specific.
Just speaking mind you. ;)

WOW. June is half through.
Remember, the ERIN net this evening.
Digital at 1900 and phone at 2000 hrs. eastern.
Be there or be square. OK, OK, I am showing my age. :walkingstick:
-
Talk to you later, alligator.

:lmfao:

I monitored the Digital net. So far I haven't been able to get my hands on a newer version of Ham Radio Deluxe that has the ICOM 7300 listed. For the time being, listening is better than nothing. No, No, No, No, No, I will not pay $100 for the new HDR program.
I'm all tuned up for the 8PM Phone Net.
-
Calling the net now at 7.239 MHz due to heavy QRM at 7.238
-
QRM IS TERRIBLE HERE. 7.240.50 IS CLEAR HERE.
-
I AM ON 7.240 MHZ
-
OK BACK AT 7.239 MHZ
-
I can't compete with the QRM 1.5 Khz below us.
-
yEAH IT IS TUFF. I HAVE GOT MOST OF THE NOISE OUT BUT WITH THAT WRITTEN, I CAN GET 90% OF IT. IT IS NICE TO SET BACK AND PLAY WITH THE KNOBS THOUGH. :D
-
Sorry about the QRM, I had initially tried 7.24, but there were some W8's already occupying the frequency.
Counting myself, we had 6 check-ins, and I was able to filter out the QRM, so it was good copy. It's interesting to hear about the shortages in different parts of the country.
-
I was up monitoring tonight- heard most of the stations and their reports. I couldn't get thru the noise tonight. Here in central florida gas prices average at $3 a gallon; most people not wearing masks and no shortages noticed in the grocery stores
-
I heard most of the stations pretty well. There were some thunderstorms north and northeast of me, so there was a lot of noise which interfered with JM and the WV station. The NCS was coming very nicely from TN, 59 +10.
I had to get off before the last station finished because a thunderstorm started rolling in our way.

First, thank you Jackalope for being NCS last evening. It was good being able to play with the filters for once to get a good copy. Usually, I am managing the net so I get what I get.
Yeah, there was a lot of QRM however, if everything was perfect then one of the tenants of doing this net, like practicing & testing your equipment, would not happen. I also had some boomers going off south of me in Scranton, PA about 60-miles away. So, that didn't help.
Digital we had 4 participants plus one that was not TXing well. If you are that person, and read this, may I suggest you turn down your volume. I run my volume between 10 to 15% and adjust volume down or up till I see no bars on my ALC as reported with my meter.
With that all written, I am looking for digital and phone NCS (Net Control Stations) volunteers. We all need to broaden our HF horizon. What if I was hit by a bus?
Thank you Jackalope for being the first to volunteer and jump into the breech.
No my two cents on shortages...
In my AO there are two grocery stores. One is about 5-miles away and is only 8,000 sf in size. There stock is always right at the lean point. If one truck is a day late from the warehouse, they are out. Thinking of a Publix or Wegmans as a "9" when it comes to quality, this store is a "4".
The next store is about 10-miles away and like the closer one is small, about 12,000 sf. This store would rate out at maybe a "6". This store serves a lot more people and is centrally located between several communities and is right off the interstate. MrsMac and I do most of our shopping there. This store like the earlier one, is "just in time inventory" challenged too.
My point being, when we see items low or out of stock, it may not always be due to Uncle Joe. Just small businesses.
With that written, food on sale is running higher for sure, as I have reported in the past. And yes, gas is $3.19 a gallon as of yesterday. At the rate it is climbing locally, I suspect we will be north of $3.50 a gallon by Labor Day. Today in California, the average is $4.08 a gallon.
Uncle Joe's puppeteers (Obama, Rice, Jill, etc) are surely screwing the country. With yet 502-days till the mid-term elections, it will only get worse. Remember, inflation is just one part of the equation.
Okay, okay, this tread is supposed to be non political. I am sorry.
-
Johny, the shortages do seem to vary with location, but they are still an indicator of pressure on the JIT inventory system. By the end of the summer we should have a better idea as to how severe the problem is. Hopefully, most of our members have been prudent and have stockpiled lots of food.
Regarding the QRM, I'm always amazed in the filtering capabilities of the IC-7300 when compared to some of my older radios. I remember when radios first had DSP and it was quite a change. Today's radios are light years beyond that.
Thanks Johny, for the reminder about Field Day. Field Day is the ultimate test of receiver performance. If you can't hear them, you can't work them.

POLITICAL???? Hell, I thought you were talking about Mental Illness.

Don't forget about the two nets this evening.
I will see ya' on the airwaves this evening.
-
Dealing with thunderstorms down here in Central Florida so doubt I will be up on the net tonight. No change in local situation.
-
I'm monitoring the Digital net right now. Q5 copy on Johnny.
Hmmmm....... I didn't see any of the other station's text show up on my screen.
-
nO WORRIES tOM.
PKv, we had two plus myself. A gent from Ohio and my friend from NC that makes most of the digital check-ins.
Nothing new to report other then weather has been a challenge for folks.
The phone net is in 30-minutes or so. I will see ya' then.
-
Rough conditions, but I was able to copy everyone. To reiterate my report, beautiful sunny day 68 degrees at net time. Only 9 infected with the Chinese virus in my county, out of a population of 60,000. Unleaded gas is at $2.68/gallon. No shortages observed, in fact we picked up another 25 lbs. of flour and more poultry feed. Life is good.
-
Don't forget the net tonight.
Right around net time, digital and phone, thunderstorms expected here. If it happens, I will pull the plug here. Hopefully, someone else will pick up the net (s).
See ya' on the air.
-
I monitored the digital net tonight. I only saw text from JohnnyMac show up on my screen. It was 100% copy. I'm tuned up on 7.238 and waiting for the phone net at 8.
