Where's The net?
« on: February 20, 2024, 07:12:44 PM »
I'm 5 minutes late checking in to the ERIN Digital net and there's nothing there. Did we change to 40 meters or something?

Just for the fun of it.  Whatever that means all above.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

OK NEMO: Here's what happened. The Digital Net is on 3.588 Mhz, Upper Sideband Digital(USB-D). I was on the right frequency but on Lower Sideband (LSB). I was sitting there seeing nothing on my screen. The Digital net comes across the screen as TEXT. The benefit of Digital is it's a bit like Morse Code (CW) when PHONE(VOICE) won't quite cut through the noise. That's why we have 2 nets. The first is Digital and the second is Phone. By the way.... You probably should at least study for the Technician class Ham License. You'd be surprised how far you could talk with that UV5R when going through the BEDFORD repeater. As best I recall it is mounted on or near the Peaks of Otter. Sometimes I can hear it and even talk into it and I'm 127 miles away. You are only 18 miles away and can hit it with your Handi-Talkie while sitting inside your house.

You are probably correct.  Can you cover me under your license?  Or do I need to really get my own?

Nope... You have to get your own. However, there is a work around. You have go to a Ham buddy's house and use their radio with them standing right next to you. You can operate as 3rd party traffic and use their call sign. Yep. that's too much of a pain in the ass so you'll need to get your own license.

Well, I do know 2 people with their own set-ups and licenses.  One is about a mile away, and the other is about 15 or so.  I might have to see about doing that.
