QYT triband radios
« on: October 05, 2021, 11:05:12 PM »
I was just looking around on AMAZON and found the 25 watt QYT "KT8900R" triband radios showed up as still being available. :fuckYeah: Yep, I ordered another backup for the backup that I already have. The last time I looked for them, they didn't seem to exist anymore. Why did I buy another one? Well, I'm thinking that it won't be long before the situation will be, "NOTHING IS AVAILABLE". Then I'd be standing there with money in my hand and no way to buy it. :what: This will be the 6th one I've bought and one of them crapped out on transmit and will only put out 1 watt so I guess that one is now a triband scanner. One is programmed and still in the box and covered in Aluminum Foil, one is in the Chevy, One is in the Expedition, and one is in the House as a base station. The crapped out one is in one of those 5 gallon plastic buckets with all my other crapped out radios. :faint:

WOW! That was quick. My QYT Tri-Band just arrived and I just finished programming it and covering the box with Aluminum Foil. Hmmmm..... They've added the ability to do Alfa-Numerics from the Edit Menu right on the radio. I didn't expect that. I've always had to do that from the CHIRP program. Before I unhooked it from the power supply, I put a Dummy Load and Watt/SWR meter on it and made sure it worked. Just under 30 watts VHF and about 15 watts on UHF. Now that I have a ton of Backup radios, I can stop worrying about "What If one of my radios craps out when we are in a SHTF situation." Those radios that I bought for cheap are eventually be worth their weight in Gold because they aren't going to be available when the SHTF.

My open frequency 6 Baofeng's arrived yesterday. Get 'em while you can.

I will charge then program them today. Once that is done, like PKv, I will Christmas wrap them with aluminum foil.

I'd put those Baofengs in an ammo can and wrap the opening with some metal tape.  That gives you EMP protection and waterproofness.  Hopefully you have some of those USB charging cords, for an additional way of keeping the batteries charged.  Don't forget extra batteries too.

The open band BaoFeng's are like dope. Once you've got some, the more you want. If I was rich, which I'm not, I'd order enough to outfit most every household in my County. I just have to settle for outfitting my neighborhood. When things go South, and we start using them, I'm certain the word will get out and I'll have some, if not all, of the neighbors come looking for radios. I think that it won't be long before the open band radios will all be gone and the other neighbors will be screwed unless they want to buy MURS specific or FRS specific radios if they can even find them. We all know that those 1/2 watt FRS radios are pieces of crap. I guess the FRS will be good enough for a half mile area. If they get lucky, they might find some of the MURS radios but I remember years ago that the JOB ONE radios that operated on MURS were a lot more expensive than the BaoFengs. Years ago, I did a little self analysis and realized that I'm not a good merchant. I can run a store for someone else and make them rich but I can't run a store of my own because I'd give everything away. As a Side Note, when the wife and I bought the ACURA, I didn't want to load the roof up with a bunch of antennas so I bought an open band 25 watt QYT, VHF/UHF dual band so I'd only need one dual band antenna.

Good going. The price certainly was right for 6 radios. Note to everybody else, "Get 'em while you can because they won't be available much longer". Its better to be a year too early than to be 1 minute too late.
