It's time to mark your calendars for the next ERIN/Unchainedpreppers net set for Sunday August 11, 2019. It is also time to get your antenna's up and tuned before hand.
Some of the group asked me to recommend a good multiple band antenna. My suggestion still is;
1) Make your own as I wrote about titled, BUILDING A SIMPLE, AFFORDABLE, HIGH-QUALITY MULTI-BAND ANTENNA (https://www.americanpartisan.org/2019/03/building-a-simple-affordable-high-quality-multi-band-antenna-by-johnymac/) over at American Partisan, or
2) Buy one. Here (http://<iframe style="width:120px;height:240px;" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="//ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=j3st3r13-20&marketplace=amazon®ion=US&placement=B005OEA88Q&asins=B005OEA88Q&linkId=aeda4d685ae11acc73f477ad19b7aad3&show_border=false&link_opens_in_new_window=false&price_color=333333&title_color=0066c0&bg_color=ffffff">
</iframe>) is a very good one that you can pick up for under $65-.
If space is an issue in your backyard, I recommend putting the antenna up with an inverted "V" configuration. Attached is a down and dirty suggested diagram.
Looking ahead using an HF predictor, the best bands and times are as follows:
1400 hrs eastern 40-meters, and
2300 hrs eastern 75/80-meters.
If there is enough interest we will do the 1400 & 2300 hrs eastern net.
Once I get a feeling for participation, on either times, I will send out a PACE to the folks who are planning on participating. Drop me an email stating "YES" if you are planning on attending and which net.

Again, planning to participate.
Has there been any thought of attempting a digital net on PSK31 or another mode that allows multi-operator communications?
-
Yes B.C
I need to drag my TS-590S out of the faraday cage to get back into it. Been using an old classic radio of late the IC-735.
So do you suggest PSK31 to start out with?
-
I am not an expert in these digital modes, however FT8 is not one for the exchange of anything more than signal reports, so although good for testing and racking up contacts, it would not be useful for conversation.
JS8 is proposed as an alternative to FT8, and is said to allow more of an exchange of text, however I have not yet gotten that mode to operate here.
I have a small experience with PSK31, and it appears easier to carry on an exchange. It allows you to initiate and continue a dialog with another station, not limited to a brief handshake exchange.
I am running FLDIGI at my location. I am sure there are others available, this is the only one I am familiar with. I see it able to decode multiple data streams, simultaneously on slightly different, but adjacent frequencies. I think this would allow for multiple conversations, as many can be seen, and hopefully followed.
Just a suggestion.

Cool beans!

I might try the 11PM eastern on 80 meters but I need an approximate frequency. PSK31??????
-
As long as I can get the antenna up beforehand, I plan on monitoring the earlier net.
-
I have my TS-590s set up and broadcasting...I think
Would be willing to try to hook up with one of ya today (Aug 5th) before 1600 hrs or anytime tomorrow (Aug 6th).
Pick a freq. and mode and we will give it a try. Using Fldigi program.
-
I'm in for the early 40K net, if it is ssb. Barring thunderstorms of course.
