Not really. I think it will be fun to play with once I get it to accept memories and get the talk groups set up. For the small amount of money I spent, I think it was a good investment. With that said, I think that as a SHTF radio, it will be very limited. The worse things get, the more we will move backward in technology so more people will be able to effectively communicate. For instance, when Digital won't work, we will drop back to Analog, then when Analog becomes ineffective, we will drop back to CW and the HF Bands. Putting all our hopes and dreams in having Analog or Digital Linked systems and Internet linking is a bit risky. By the way, the new DM5R is actually the BF5R. The BF5R is the Baofeng that actually will do a proper tier 1 and tier 2 job without creating havoc in the digital mode.
