The next ERIN net will be Tuesday June 27, 2023, starting at 1900 hrs. eastern with the digital ERIN net. The PACE for that net is as follows,
1) At 1900E hrs. digital net (NCS is usually on frequency at 1850E hrs.) will commence.
Primary 7.110 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250, 1000 on the Waterfall
Alternate 3.588 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250, 1000 on the Waterfall
Contingency This email thread
Emergency Text. Do I have your cell phone number?
When the Net Control Station (NCS) calls for check-in's this is the reporting format,
de your call, your call/name/location/W-TFC or No-TFC/ de your call
All traffic (TFC) will be passed via MFSK32. I suggest using the FLmsg ICS-213 or the AmRRON Custom forms.
NCS will convert mode from C-4/250 (Contestia 4/250) to MFSK32 and then instruct check-ins one at a time to pass TFC.
Once TFC is complete, NCS will return mode back to C-4/250 for the wrap up of the QSO.
2) At 2000E hrs. (I am typically on frequency at 1950E hrs.) will commence.
Primary 7.237 Mhz LSB or higher till clear air (New as May 2023)
Alternate 3.909 Mhz LSB or higher till clean air
Contingency This email thread
Emergency Text. Do I have your cell phone number?
The above SOI will be used at first, if the interwiz is taken down through Executive Order -- Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions. Then we will develop and share a revised SOI.

Hmmm.... My radio works perfect fordigital on 80 meters but it won';t transmit at all if I change bands. Tonight I'm going to fire it up on 80 meters and then use the tuning knob to move up to 7.11 and see it works. If it doesn't, then I'll catch you guys on the Phone net.
-
Cool.
May I suggest you check to make sure the different boxes are checked between the 80 meter band and 40 meter band. That is where my issues came about last week. I had one thing not checked.
Hope to see ya' one way or the other.
-
Oh, Crap!! Tonight I couldn't even get 80 meters to work. I tried a bunch of things and nothing worked. I'll catch y'all on 40 meter Phone at 8.
-
Perfect PKv
7.237 at my AO is clear as a bell. Meet ya' all there.
-
sorry folks lets meet on 7.235 Mhz
someone moved in around 7.239 Mhz. To close for us.
-
It was good to hear everyone last evening. The band conditions were great.
-
Yes it was Jackalope.
We had 8 on for digital and 8 for phone.
I know it is a pain especially in the summer months to get on either or both nets. These nets are there so all can practice their skills and make sure their equipment works at optimum performance.
To not get on one or both of the nets hinders your muscle memory. "Use it or loose it".
-
The digital net was quite good here , along the Chesapeake Bay. I'm not much of a voice guy, so I pulled the plug after the digital net and returned to my book, pipe & whiskey & water.

Stoopid question maybe... but
How far away have you been able to connect, what is longest and average distance your transmissions have been successful at being received?
-
That is a tough question Felix but I will try.
To answer your question directly. North, West, South, East. Finland, Hawaii, Cape Town, Russia/Ukraine.
To better answer your question here goes.
Being able to connect with another station a lot of things come into play like,
> Type of sending/receiving (TX/RX) antenna. Along with that the height and general quality of the antennas being used.
> Power. Power is measured in watts and obviously more watts = greater distance. My radios TX no more than 100 Watts.
Some of my radios only TX at 5 watts while others can do 20 watts while my big radios can do 5-100 watts. Legally, you
can use up to 1,500 watts on most frequency's. An linear amp can be as expensive as a 100 watt radio though.
> Add to what I have already written, the sun plays a role in distance. The good news is, we are starting a 11-year positive
stint with better propagation each year up till about 2032 and then it will start it's decline once again.
With all that gobbledegook written, if you are primarily interested in comms within North America, all of the above still applies but a bit easier.
Looking at the TX/RX within the North, west, south, east within North America, I have had successful QSO's, Quebec, Port Harding BC, Los Angles, Texas, Florida and point in between.
Then we have three modes used within the ham radio community, Phone, Digital, CW (Morse Code).
CW will give you the best ability to have a QSO within North America and that is using minimum wattage. Typical CW QSO is done with 10 watts or less. The reason is that dots and dashes need less power to be slung from one antenna to another. It also is the least mode used so plenty of space to have a QSO.
Digital is great if you do not want to learn Morse code. I have had many QSO's with other stations using digital from the west coast on up into BC and Alaska. And of course within North America east of the Rockies. Digital is a bit more complicated than CW or Phone but with the help of a digital Elmer, easy enough.
Phone is what most folks getting into ham radio think about when talking about communicating. Yes, you can speak to other hams around the world and down the street but voice takes a bit more energy (watts) and with a lot of people, the vast majority of folks on the air, it can be a challenge finding a clear frequency at times. Add to the power, it becomes even more important to have a good quality antenna at the proper height along with the sun's propagation at your back.
Now that your eyes have totally glazed over with me answering your simple question, I do apologize. If I left something out or one of the hams on UP wish to add to my dissertation please, go ahead.

Now that you've asked JohnyMac what time it is and he told you how to build a watch........... I took your question to probably mean how far away a station has been on the ERIN net. As best I recall, we have had a fellow in Texas participate in the net several times. If that's not what you were asking then JohnyMac's answer is right on the money.

Don't forget the nets tonight.

on 7.233 mhz

Thank you, pkv. Yes.
So. I guess "the news" will have to leap frog, station to station, region to region. While hoping accuracy does not degrade into the "Telephone Game'.
Arizona is a fair piece away from Texas - hate to have to walk or ride that distance.
-
ERIN is a regionally focused net. East/south. Though useful for areas outside of the East/South corridor, remember that AmRRON has local, regional and national nets and also a national Intelligence Brief occurs on at least a weekly basis. ERIN has significant overlap with AmRRON, resulting in information sharing.

Felix, you can buy a transceiver to listen. You do not need a license.
Here are two suggestions,
1) https://www.amazon.com/Xiegu-Radio-Structure-Built-Antenna/dp/B08X6Z6KN2/ref=sr_1_2?crid=19BC3YBDH8DPB&keywords=xiegu+g90+hf+radio&qid=1687354160&sprefix=G90+radio%2Caps%2C484&sr=8-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.c3015c4a-46bb-44b9-81a4-dc28e6d374b3 (https://www.amazon.com/Xiegu-Radio-Structure-Built-Antenna/dp/B08X6Z6KN2/ref=sr_1_2?crid=19BC3YBDH8DPB&keywords=xiegu+g90+hf+radio&qid=1687354160&sprefix=G90+radio%2Caps%2C484&sr=8-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.c3015c4a-46bb-44b9-81a4-dc28e6d374b3)
2) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BJ247SNL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BJ247SNL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Then build or buy a dipole antenna,
3) https://www.amazon.com/MFJ-1778-G5RV-Antenna-80-10-Meters/dp/B005OEA88Q/ref=sr_1_3?crid=37QJH2AN7C7T1&keywords=g5rv+antenna&qid=1687354408&s=electronics&sprefix=g5rv+antenna%2Celectronics%2C147&sr=1-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc (https://www.amazon.com/MFJ-1778-G5RV-Antenna-80-10-Meters/dp/B005OEA88Q/ref=sr_1_3?crid=37QJH2AN7C7T1&keywords=g5rv+antenna&qid=1687354408&s=electronics&sprefix=g5rv+antenna%2Celectronics%2C147&sr=1-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc)
By the way, during a national emergency, e.g. 2020 Covid-19 shut down, you do not need a license to transmit.
As a side note, my club gave out a bunch of tr-usdx radios as presents to club members at the 2022 Christmas party. Everyone of the recipients love that little radio.
Just food for thought.

LOOKS LIKE 7.257 MHZ FOR PHONE THIS EVENING.

Sorry to have had to cut it short.
