Baofeng No chirp
« on: April 05, 2018, 03:56:44 PM »
Tried to set up my Baofeng with the disc and cable and I got a window that said I needed a driver for it to contact the manufacturer. Does anyone know what I need, where I can get it or the manufacturer's URL?

Do a search on Miklor and they'll have everything you need. What happens is the driver that you need is an old driver and you'll need to download it from Miklor and follow their instructions on how to install it. If you read their instructions, you'll see all sorts of error messages and you just ignore some of the error messages and then do what they say and the driver will install properly and work just fine. Once in a while I have to reinstall the driver because Windows updates sees the old driver and automatically updates it and screws things up. While you are at Miklor, make sure you download the LATEST DAILY BUILD. They claim that with the LATEST DAILY BUILD, you don't need to use the old driver. That's BS. When I got a new computer with Windows 10, the new driver does not work. You still need the older driver. If you can print out the Driver Installation instructions, you definitely should do it. Since you have already installed everything, the first thing you should do is unplug the programming cable, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. If you get a message that says you plugged in new hardware, the program might just automatically start working.

Once you get everything working and have programmed your BaoFeng, save the file. DO NOT bring that file up and dump it into any other BaoFengs because the Firmware might be different. For programming a second BaoFeng, just download whatever crap frequencies are in the radio to your computer and then open the saved file. Then COPY and PASTE the information into the file with the factory frequencies. Then you have transferred everything and it won't cause your radio to lock up. Then, after you have pasted all those frequencies, you need to go into the SETTINGS and set everything up the way you want. You definitely will want to change that stupid Squelch set up from the factory. Be sure to leave the Beep on because if you turn it off, some people have trouble with the speaker being muted on receive. I'm not talking about the ROGER BEEP, I'm talking about the beep you get when you press a key on the keypad.

Once you have the driver and Chirp software working, it's very important to first read the radio.  Use whatever is read from the radio as your basis for programming.
