60-Meter Comms

The AMRRON crowd that I play radio with on occasion, started to dabble on 60-meters yesterday. The Yaesu FTDX-10 had no problem receiving (RX) but would not transmit (TX). With some suggestions from OBH and a few others, I finally figured it out.

Anyway, lets start chatting about 60 & 30-meter comms. The why, how, when, etc. Post your experiences and thoughts under this thread.

Had the same problem with FT-991A. How did you resolve?

I habe 60 meter capability. It's a very good band for NVIS/regional comms during the day and same++ at night.  The down side in the United States is that we are channelised here, with five 'channels' available, one of which is QRM'd full time by FT8mutual/auto/ beacon howlin, rather than allowing actual communicating. My older radios were all 'MARS mod' to work there, the new one came with 60m US channels preprogrammed in the default memories., both for USB and for CW. Where II used to live in Northern Idaho, we used 5371.5 USB as a regional frequency.

MattMCD, so you have a Yaesu 991A. I am not familiar with that radio however, I suspect you need to change the mic settings in your Radio Setting and data to USB.

so....

Function > Radio Settings > Mode SSB > SSB Mod Source click change to rear > Click Rear Select and change to USB.

OBH has a 991A. Once he opens UP up, I am sure he will tuck you in.

My ICOM 7300 doesn't shoiw the 60 meter band when I bring up the bands to choose from but ICOM put the 5 channels in memory at the factory so I have to go into memory mode to use 60 meters. Until I didcovered that memory thingy, I was really pissed off. Then I became a happy camper.

Actually, now that I've thought about it, my radio SSB mic settings are already set to rear. Otherwise I would not be able to participate on 3558 or 14110 nets. Apparently that particular menu setting does not affect the Yaesu channelized default settings. I may have a real issue here as there are no other mic menu settings displayed here except for AM & FM.

We got Matt up and running on 60m.

I have 60m and 30m capability.

Indeed FLDigi does work on the FT-991A 60M band. It's just completely silent on transmit, i.e. no digital audio sound as on other bands. It gives you the impression it's not working.
