my wife has been working out training for marathons -while I have not. it seems to me that the most overlooked prep is exercise...I'm guilty of it, slacking on PT. Being an IT guy means sitting around a lot, being an unemployed IT guy means time to get moving.

That being said I've recently started up on the weight training part of the program, I've read (some) a little of the book... being over 50 I'm thinking about how it's cool that can get focused on doing something for a few sets and enjoy lifting - it's not like when I was 20 just out of the military, but it's something I look forward to doing a few times a week. My daily goal is do something every day, 45 mins -to an hour, and limit calorie intake so I'm not eating like a pig every day. seems according to the book, it's not voodoo magic- you need to burn calories by moving around, and you need to stop eating so much if you want to lose weight.

one of the other books from a while back - "reluctant partisan" - has some other ideas about being fit that like the idea of... strong people are harder to kill.  this book has probably been one of the better books I've found for learning survival skills by people who likely forgot more than I'll ever know. I used to be on the USROG forum a lot while I was sitting around a lot at work.
