Title: Medical Remedys
Post by: kokopelli on April 13, 2014, 11:11:13 PM
I found this in the May/June issue of Survivalist magazine. I thought is was pretty cool. Especially if you alter the remedy to your liking.
Ingredients: 1/4 cup of pure honey (preferable local honey), 2 lemons, Large shot of whiskey.
Cut the 2 lemons in halves
squeeze the juice from all 4 halves into a small saucepan.
Add the 1/4 cup of honey
Bring mixture to a boil
Remove boiled mixture from heat & allow to cool for a few minutes
Add large shot of whiskey
Let entire mixture cool until it is warm enough to drink.
you can now take this home remedy a spoonful at a time, as needed, or you can add this mixture to a nice cup of warm tea and drink slowly. For younger children, reduce or completely eliminate the whiskey if desired.

On especially cold nights when I am hunting, I eliminate everything but the whiskey, seems to work fine for me.

On cold overnight backpacking trips or warm ones for that matter I find a recipe in the same vein works wonders to help me sleep, I substitute the lemon juice and honey for whiskey and sleep like a baby!

but really next time um sick I'm gonna try this.

Awesome Kokopelli!

My grandmother had a similar recipe for congestion and coughing. It was kept in a Mason Jar in the ice box. The jar contained: Rye Whiskey, Rock sugar, a cinnamon stick and citrus rind (Orange and Lemon). She would give this to us kids if we couldn't stop coughing. When we were sick we also often got a tsp before we were put down for the night.

Good topic folks, what home remedies have been handed down in your family?
