Upper Body Strength
« on: May 02, 2013, 04:57:37 PM »
Some Air Force guys were training in the university gym last week. I saw the correct form for doing pullups, and quickly realized I can't do a single one. For that matter, pushups are still giving me a real problem. How do you build on upper body strength? I've been running more than anything because I realize that excess body weight will hamper any strength training.

If you're having difficulty with push ups you probably need to start with something as simple as resistance bands for exercise. Buy a band set and look up a good selection of physical therapy exercises. It may seem kind of pathetic at first, but as you develop the muscles properly you'll be able to move into more difficult exercises for sufficient muscle development.

It may not seem like the most manly exercise regime, but it'll work.

I first used resistance bands when I was in physical therapy for a torn thoracic. If you get the right resistance they will kick your ass steady because you can't use momentum to 'lift'.

Don't forget about back, upper body isn't just about chest.
