Medicines
« on: February 28, 2024, 05:46:47 PM »
We've discussed Food, Ammo, Precious Metals, Power, and Transportation. The one thing that we have only somewhat mentioned is stockpiling of Medicines. I have a really strong supply of all sorts of medicines, but I have had a couple of conversations with my family Doctor as it relates to Shelf Life of medicines. He said most medicines just lose some potency with age and it is important to keep them at a constant temperature and humidity. With that said, he also told me that I have to be very careful with certain old medicines. The main one that can and will kill you is TETRACYCLENE. Always ask your doctor about the shelf life of whatever medicines you plan to stockpile. If I get any BROAD SPECTRUM ANTIBIOTICS, I always ask about shelf life of those. Things like AMOXYCILINE will keep for a very long time.

Mentioned it bit around here before.  I have epilepsy.  Got it from a subdural infection in 2010 that no one could ever tell me what caused it.

Because of that I take (now) Keppra (generic) 1500mg x 2 a day.  Life has permitted me to get ahead on mail to me scripts so far about 200 days pills at current dose in the closet.

I am very careful on rotation and storage requirements.

I also take BP, Beta Blocker and a Statin pills.  Nothing there I really could not live without.  But that 200 days has me concerned.

Life can be a headache sometimes.

Good discussion. May i suggest, JASEMEDICAL.com. If your doctor will not provide meds, try Jase out. Pricy, yupper, however, if the SHTF and the pharmacies have empty shelves if open at all. Ya' got a backup.

We have assembled a quantity of the following meds: amoxicillin, zithro, ciprofloxacin, and metronidazole. Also a little doxycyclin, which isn?t supposed to last very long.
This should cover our expected needs if meds become unavailable.

Doxycycline should never be used past its expiration date as it can be fatal.

So what info does that Jase want beginning at the Contact Info page?  Do they have a proper script questionnaire to fill out and MD on that end evaluate and ship or ? ? ?

RB: You are right on the money. DOXY is a last resort medicine but Doctors routinely prescribe it. That stuff can kill you in about 10 different ways.

ALL antibiotics have, since last summer, been requiring a vet's prescription so far as I know.  If small doses of fish tank antibiotics are still available off the shelf, news to me.
