And Here Comes the Pandemic
« on: October 30, 2017, 10:14:52 PM »
Headed right out of Africa that side of the world.  This is a Pneumonic Plague.  A respiratory disease spread by air, not contact or bite.

Its a headache to edit for proper educational copyright borrowing so click and go read.  Its a long article and I brought only about 5%.

Warnings of ‘GLOBAL OUTBREAK’ of Black Death as PLAGUE continues to spread
HEALTH experts are warning there is “something different” about a new Black Death outbreak spreading across the world.
By Charlotte Ikonen / Published 30th October 2017

Some 1,300 cases of the pneumonic plague, which is transmitted by air, have now been confirmed.

An estimated 50 million lives were lost as a result of the Black Death epidemic of the 1300s.

And now the deadly disease has spread into more African countries after taking root in Madagascar.

Countries affected include South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Comoros, the Seychelles, Mauritius and Reunion.

Whether the Plague is Bubonic or Pneumonic is mostly a function of the environment in which PPL are exposed to the Pathogen.

So this "Pneumonic "Plague is still very much the same pathogen its always been (more or less they can also evolve of course bit by bit)

Plague is endemic to the United States and outbreaks here are few and far between.

Conditions that will make the Plague spread are lots of people on proximity with plague bearing fleas. Practically that means lots of people in proximity with rodents.
Some rodents "work" better than others brown rats are one of the best example.

Since currently few people live in proximity to those,.. plague currently has little chance to become a big problem in this country.

The fact this plague seems to be reported to include many pneumonic cases is unusual though and bears watching.

Thank you for the info Eric.

As always having a resident expert REALLY helps us to understand these kind of threats in real detail.

I heard that these folks are getting the plague because they are digging up their relatives and dancing with their bones. Apparently "The Plaque" does not die when in the ground for century's.

As funny as it sounds i have seen this first hand with my own two eyes...mostly more rural areas.
it is their culture, and you cannot touch their culture.
so yeah, i kind if don't feel sorry for them.
They have been warned and then when people try and help them they take it as an attack on their "culture".
It is the same problem when they all move into a marshland by the thousands and demand water and electricity from the municipality and then they don't understand why they keep being told to move out. :deadHorse:

Sorry. i call a spade a spade. and africa mentality... takes severe patience to work with. :zombie1:

My two cents as you call it.

just saying @nemo

i am an outcast amongst most other females. but alas. I am who i am.
But in all honesty this whole pandemic thing would not surprise me if something catastrophic "disease wise" hits our lovely sunny SA. hence previously mentioned reasons.

just because i have a well developed sense of irony.

one good thing about the drought in SA, Yersinia pestis (or at least the fleas that carry it) love cool wet weather.

well kbop that is rather ironic.

But alas even though there is a draught in the lower part of africa a lot of the coastal areas are still cool and wet, and humid, perfect fly and flea weather.
And as the seasons have now properly turned it is becoming very warm during the day and sometimes rains at night, typical November December weather.
We had a blistering day yesterday with 35degrees heat and it drizzled last night. so somewhere the rain is coming, i can see it in the earth, the ants are building their nest walls higher, the flies are becoming more pestering and even the bees are invading the garden as the little bit of greenery is burning yellow and black in the suns heat currently.
Small frogs have begun emerging and we have allready had our first set of flying termites for the season.
The fleas have been out in full swing since the cold days started turning warmer.

The signs are there and the conditions after our sudden heavy rains make it perfect for flies, fleas and mosquitoes.

Often after our heavy rains the locals become very ill.
interestingly.

35C(95F) now that shot for spring. What is it like in your summer?

well JoJo it is technically spring but it was 37C yesterday pre-rain heatwaves are common during spring.
Our summer is an entirely different story. Blistering days and in the evening it will still be around 25-27C outside in the courtyard till around 23:00PM.
So basically HOT. But when you are acclimatized and use to it, barely notice most days heat.

About two years ago i forgot to put away the long candles and they were standing upright in their candle holders. Lets just say they looked like dying flower stems by the evening and were still flexible. It isn't that hot every day however, the extreme heat waves last about a week, sometimes 2 weeks at most, then it normalizes to about average days 31-35C.

There are several reasons we say :"Africa is not for sissies"  the heat and heat exhaustion is one.
However there are places that get even hotter than here (not even desert areas). Where the tar melts on the roads and birds start dropping dead from the trees due to the heat. This does not however happen every year.

Fun fact: We can have all 4 seasons in a week, from -3C to 31C. We have had a few of those weeks between end winter and spring.
Increasingly strange weather in the last 10 years. Like tornadoes... we rarely have those. last two years we have been having more of them.

Our summers are for the most part highly enjoyable.
