White House Places Thumb On 2020 Census Results
The 2020 census was supposed to be released last week. It was not.
Ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), and several committee Republicans, sent U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, a letter last week stating in part,
“We write today with concerns about the apportionment count released by the Census Bureau, and whether the process which derived the count was fair, accurate, and independent from any White House interference,” the letter reads. “Given the extra time it took to complete the 2020 Census – including not meeting the statutory deadlines by months – we have questions about the methodology and the role the Biden White House may have played in releasing these numbers, especially as the results differ from evaluation estimates released mere months ago in ways that benefit blue states over red states.”
As we learn from the
Washington Examiner many Republican's are expecting a drastic change from the preliminary report results from the Census Bureau on April 27, 2021 outlined below,
> Texas will gain two seats in the US House of Representatives,
> The following states will receive each one seat in the US House of Representatives - Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina, and
Oregon,
> The following states will lose one seat in the US House of Representatives - California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, and
> All other states not mentioned, will not be affected.
In an unusual event, the acting Census Bureau Chief, Steven Dillingham resigned from his position on January 20, 2021 and putting in his place on the same day, Ron Jarmin.
Keep an eye towards the results from the 2020 census being published. Keep an eye towards the changing of gained & lost seats to the US House of Representatives from the preliminary results. I did a quick check on the past twelve census results and in no cases has the preliminary results changed from the final results when it came to lost or gained seats in the US House of Representatives.
