I hate stories like this.  So sad.  It's a tragic example of what you can find in a lot of people working everywhere these days.   People who just don't give a shit about doing their jobs to the best of their abilities.  Doing as little as possible, as quick as possible, with the least amount of effort as possible, and get the hell out and go home. 

You see it everywhere.  When it shows up in LE and emergency responders it's life threatening.

In keeping with my personal policy of never posting anything I wouldn't want read back to me in a court room, I'll use a generality and phrase it like this:

Abusers who get away with their actions will continue the abuse.

And the cops just walked away from this huh! So let me get this straight. when the cops murder someone for fun or expediency they will not be held accountable. Ok i think that needs to be kept in mind for the future.

Does anyone see what happened in this tragic case?  Because it's something all of you will find yourself dealing with if tshtf and you're confronted with people you don't know.

What happened here was a miscue in communication.  The dispatcher said that in his communication with the responding officers that he stated the individual was mental and would need to be Baker Acted.  I'm sure that is not the only information he gave when he was communicating with the officers who were going to respond and somewhere it was lost in the communication.

The officers respond and encounter an individual acting weirdly and aggressively.  So, not knowing him, they conclude he is either intoxicated or on drugs, something they see all of the time, and they arrest him.

At the jail, the jailers don't know this man or the initial communication with the dispatcher, and they assume he is being aggressive like probably 20% or so of the people who pass through their door so they do what they are trained to do and take actions to subdue him.

Apparently, they go through this process at least eight times.  Another inmate says he noticed the guy wasn't feeling well however the guards missed it.  Not hard to see happening.  They were more than likely understaffed and dealing with the next few aggressive individuals coming through the door.  The squeaky wheel gets the grease and attention.  Unfortunately, due to a series of miscues this man dies.

Now, when the tshtf and people are migrating from one place to another you are going to be confronted by people you don't know anything about.  You will have NO history of dealing with them that would enable you to determine if their behavior is aggressive  or the result of some other motivation.  You see them walking along , weapon in hand at the ready, nervously looking this way and that.  What do you make of them?  What do they make of you when they notice you with your weapon at the ready?  Do you see what I'm getting at?  I think if tshtf there are going to be a lot of firefights that in reality shouldn't have taken place due to people misreading each other..

Preventable and uncalled for torture. Using a "spit mask" and pepper spray in combination with immobilization is nothing more than vindictive and sadistic behavior by psychotics. Lynndie England got national coverage and a year and a half for dog leashing and stacking naked iraqis, I don't recall even an accusation of murder. Strange how U.S. citizens are less newsworthy than military prisoners. There is hell to pay coming soon, I suspect we will soon beat our civil war world record of slaughtering each other. We may in fact deserve it.

Could be.  There's no way to know.  You weren't there and neither was I.  But what I do know is few things in life are black and white.  The overwhelming majority are varying shades of grey.

The point I was making was in the last paragraph.  You never know what another person is actually thinking.  That makes for some sucky situations.

Sledge, every department has their own policies and precedures for use of force. The united states supreme court will either find these officers accountable on an individual level, or this department will pay dearly..   I know at our department after we use o.c. spray we let them shower after they calm down. Even if the person is o.c. sprayed on scene we all have a gallon of water in our trunks we use. With restraint chars we have a nurse check them every 15 mins, and we come talk to them every 5. He might of been o.c. sprayed while being put into the chair, and they didnt watch him or shower him. You have to worry about things like positional asphyxiation when you use a restrait chair. You also have to watch for someone hyperventalating after being o.c. sprayed. He might not of been sprayed while in the chair, it might of happen before; HOwever, the liability is still there because they didn't get him medical attention or decon him in a timley manner. THis is horrbile and im sure we will see someone come to justice on this. Even me as a LEO hope justice comes if wrong doing was found.

Yet another fine example of why you never call the police for help. they cant help you quite often and in some situations they become a threat to you or your loved ones themselves.

dont call police unless your legally obligated to.
