There are a few points that need to be flushed out:
The Fed and depression - the old adage of you need to take your medicine when you need it. We have been misled, instead of solving a solvable problem, they have made it so that by 2030 we will have a full blown depression that will last a long time. Now the hole is so deep we cannot get out.
The manufacturing renaissance is indeed true. More technology and more jobs (for now), however, there is technology now that will eliminate jobs in the future. Specifically, all of the new printing technology. they can print everything from oreo's to guns (metal not just plastic) and this will completely change the way people work and especially their skill sets. You will need one person to design the part and a few techs to keep the machines running. This will result in a loss of skilled labor. Same with food, print what you want to eat. This might be a stretch today, but rest assured it is coming. All this advancement will happen with fewer and fewer jobs needed. Where will the jobless go for work? Support themselves and families?
Energy - while the airwaves and talking heads claim we are awash in fuel, there have been shortages this winter, specifically in propane. Also, we are using less gas and diesel, due to a combination of better fuel mileage of the vehicles and that Americans are just driving less due to the cost. While we can take care of ourselves at our current demand levels, we are not ready to supply a lot of finished materials for anyone else.
