London Attack
« on: March 23, 2017, 08:19:48 PM »
Hi All,

Living here in the UK I thought I might offer a bit here.

While there have been some Islamic Terrorist attacks here and the recent one happening yesterday.

My wife made an interesting comment.

The IRA did much more damage in the past.

A bit of perspective.

I think that Gadget was referring to the UK not the world.

Thank you Gadget for your perspective as you live in the UK.

The sad thing is I am becoming numb to these attacks.

Interesting point though.

the Ireland/UK 'recent unpleasantness'  did revolve around governments who had specific religions as  part of their structure - and apposed to each other.  a reasonable amount of time was spent imposing their version of religion based law upon each other.

a bit like sharia law to me.

I hate to say it.

I am a bit numb to the stuff also.

Will hand it to the Muslim leaders here though.

Not only were they fast off the mark to publicly condemn this incident. They have already in two raised tens of thousands to help the victims. Speculation is that this number will grow massively in the coming days and weeks.

I do not condemn any religion. I do however condemn anyone that uses religion as an excuse to commit crimes like these.

Got to hand it to the Police and Emergency Services in how fast they reacted to this. They did one hell of a job.

Cheers all....

GG99 I'm glad that the Muslim leaders there are condemning the attack. I've noticed here by their silence they approve of any and all attacks against non-Muslims. There are only two Muslims who go to the media and condemn those who are silent.   :deadHorse:
In principle, no less than in practice, socialism is the ideology of thieves and tyrants.

All good points Gadget

One question for you: I flew in and then out of Manchester. When I was there all of the police were carrying handguns. I asked one officer in a Indian fast food restaurant what was standard issue and he told me GLOCK 17. We had a great chat about firearms while waiting for our food. He said he loves talking firearms BUT it is tough to do with fellow UK citizens. So when I asked my question and he determined that I was a "yank" and a firearm enthusiast I could barely keep up with all of the questions he asked me.

Anyhow, here is my question: Local reports here in the states that armed police were called to the site of the drama. Aren't all police in London armed like I saw in Manchester?

From what I've heard on the news only a select few get firearm training the rest get a fast pair of sneakers and a night stick (JK about the sneakers  ;))

Only a small percentage are armed in any part of the UK

You will however see a higher amount of those in Airports and such.
