We are located about 150 miles just south of Syracuse, NY. just across the NY/PA border. We have seen minimal snow since Buffalo, Batavia, Rochester, Syracuse, Watertown and communities around these city's have been getting dumped on.
Now these communities are getting dumped on because Lakes Erie and Ontario have not frozen over yet and the area was hit with cold temps. Once the Lakes freeze over then snow will come in normal amounts for the region. I forget what year it was (Late 90's early '00's) the same thing happened.
I have several friends who live in that neck of the woods and they are all in good spirits and having a pre-Thanksgiving forced vacation. They only thing they are worried about is the electric going out. I am certainly worried about that for them and for any "shut-ins", e.g. elderly & handicapped folks that may have minimal food.
Now I just saw on wunderground.com that we will all be experiencing warm weather starting Sunday and rain. This will cause a much more sever situation then the actual snow today as it will melt. Can you say flooding? Can you say power outages?
So there you go.
