Don't we only have 10 active carriers? Seems a little too close to china to be taking that kind of chance if there all going into the gulf. Keep a close eye on our littoral ships, if they head out I'm worrying.

I'm old and have a healthy dose of paranoia but admitting that, if our service members get called up and shipped before the election I believe obama will have our reichstag fire shortly after their safely offshore.

I mentioned this in another thread.  They want this ship, which was to be decommissioned, retrofitted for the SEAL's and to be on station by early summer.  That's a rush job by Navy standards. 

"Other officials from the Navy said that the military was trying to convert the vessel at an unusually rapid pace, something which lends to the speculation that it could be intended for deployment in the region surrounding Iran before any conflict begins in full.
These unnamed officials have said that the ?mothership? will be moved into the region by early summer, representing a time frame which is indeed uncharacteristically small for the military."

Yeah, I had the same thought.  I'm trying to figure out why it would make sense to gather a large percentage of elite forces on a single ship.  If Iran could take out that ship and one or two carriers trapped in shallow water it would be a real mess.  I'm starting to wonder whether it was the Pentagon or Obama who came up with this plan.  Because I'm concerned that it shows a lack of foresight.

I couldn't really see Obama coming up with any plan when it comes to the military. If you're talking about killing jobs or creating socialism, then that's a different story.

I agree that he certainly has no qualifications for it.  Which is why it blows my mind that he was able to dictate what items would be deleted from his new military budget.

I hope we put more ships in that little pond. I would hate for any one to have to work hard at finding the bulk of our fleet. And if we could get them all clustered into a tight ball as close to shore as posible, that would greeeaaat.

I'm not trying to steal the thread.  But I found an article that says there will be 4 carriers in the Gulf when you include the French carrier Charles de Gaulle.  It also says that there will be a 5th U.S. carrier standing by in the Pacific Ocean, a few days' sailing time from the water off Iran's coast.

The article also mentions a couple of islands seeing massive buildups of U.S. Forces.

Along the same lines of thought.  Recent tests have indicated to the military that our largest bunker buster bomb may not do the trick in Iran.  So they petitioned Congress for an emergency 82 million  dollar expenditure to make the bomb more effective.
