This disease (of Chinese origin no less) is now found in the U.S. It is transmitted through tick bites and has, according to where in the world you're located, up to 20%+ mortality rate. It is a hemorraghic fever, like Dengue fever or Ebola. Though the chance of transmission is probably low, be sure to check yourselves for ticks when dealing with animals or returning from the field.
