Red Cross told to prep for Chicago evacuation during NATO summit

CHICAGO (CBS) ? Is there a secret plan to evacuate some residents of Chicago in the event of major trouble during the NATO summit next month? CBS 2 has uncovered some evidence that there is. It comes from the Milwaukee area branch of the American Red Cross.

CBS 2 News has obtained a copy of a Red Cross e-mail sent to volunteers in the Milwaukee area.

It said the NATO summit ?may create unrest or another national security incident. The American Red Cross in southeastern Wisconsin has been asked to place a number of shelters on standby in the event of evacuation of Chicago.?

According to a chapter spokesperson, the evacuation plan is not theirs alone.

?Our direction has come from the City of Chicago and the Secret Service,? she said.

I've already had a talk with the lady about at LEAST starting to think real seriously about relocating to the BOL (I'm talking about moving, not literally "bugging out") if serious shit goes down in Chicago. not because I believe that things will happen in New Orleans, but because I'd rather not wait around until it does.

I know I should already be taking steps to live in my BOL, but like I've said many times, my personal wants and needs aren't the only ones at play in my life.

anyway, I'm not trying to hijack the thread and talk about BOL's and stuff, but I think it's relevant to the topic because IMO, any large scale man-made disasters, even just local events on the other side of the country, should really get us all thinking about relocating while there's still open roads and working gas stations. (except of course those of you who are already comfortable with hunkering down where you're already at)

    I live and work around the Chicago land  area and have been watching this pretty closely. I heard on a local radio station last week, evacuation numbers could be between 5 to 8 million , and southeast Wis. would be the evac. zone. Guess we will have to wait and see.

These things should be held at GITMO, feed them MREs, nice mat on the floor, with all of NATO/G8 splitting the costs.

We have a few things to take care of locally and then we are planning on staying at the BOL this summer. I think things are going to heat up. Chicago is just the beginning.
