Rhode Island Kicking out of State New Yorkers
« on: March 28, 2020, 11:25:34 AM »
Last night I came in at the end of a story where RI is kicking out or forcing newly arrived New York residents into a 14-day quarantine.

I don't know much about it but maybe CJS06 and others from the area could 'tuck' us in.

From what I understand, the RI State Police are checking motorists.  The National Guard is checking passengers on trains and buses.  Many States are requesting that New Yorkers to self-quarantine.  According to AlertsUSA, the President is considering quarantining multiple hotspots, i.e., NYC, L.A., etc.  IMHO, the sooner it's done, the better.  People don't seem to understand the concept of quarantine.  They continue to go to beaches, go walking in parks, go hiking, etc.  Trump or the individual State Governors need to put some meat behind their regulations.  Apparently, the Surgeon General has the necessary powers to do whatever is necessary to control communicable diseases.  Each day that goes by means more deaths, and more problems for the global economy.

This virus remains less deadly than the common flu and things are getting WAY out of hand.

Alaska is under lock-down too and its not a good thing. We've had fewer than 90 people infected and only one has passed away. The one who died was in her early 60's and had other medical issues which added to her poor health.

I understand limiting interstate travel but forcing people to stay in their homes is WAY TO close to martial law.

Tinfoil hat time  :tinfoil: - This looks like a test run and the next time any little thing happens they will try the lock down again, all in the name of "public safety". My spidy senses are going off the wall....  :cowboy:

I do not believe that the Federal Government (Trump) needs to slow down movement, it is up to each individual state. By doing it this way, it allows folks the ability to vote with their feet and leave.

On another point, I am sorry but a 1% death rate from a cold does not warrant closing down the whole country. Will the virus kill us or will the cure?

My mom remembers polio, measles, chicken pox out breaks and she feels this shutting down of the country is silly.

We have the right to "Move about freely". During the Civil War, the Supreme Court ruled against Abraham Lincoln on violating the Constitutional rights of Citizens. As far as Quarantine goes, I don't have a problem with that.

Welcome to Lil Rhody.........except for New Yorkers.  In addition to checking motorists and train passengers the RI State Police, Local PDs and Natl Guard are doing door to door checks in our many coastal vacation communities.  They are checking areas such as Misquamicut, Westerly,Weekapaug, Charlestown, Narragansett, Newport, Jamestown, etc.

In addition if RI residents travel to any other state for any reason other than essential work related activities they are to go into 14 day quarantine. That said 80% of residents from this area have Fall River Mass as the local stores for groceries and essential supplies.  Also there is a restriction on travel for those from out of state. If anyone is familiar with RI they will understand the absurdity of this. Here on the East Bay there are many areas of RI that border Mass. My own hone is 1.8miles from the Mass border and my Town borders 3 different Mass towns. In addition significant numbers of Mass residents work in this area. Not to mention the hundreds of out of state plates from our local Navy Base, Coast Guard Stations, Naval War College and Naval Underwater Warfare Center.

Im personally waiting for the NG to start patrolling my Town.  Our PD is too small to monitor traffic, do door to door, and respond to calls.  Our Gov stating that PD will not be responding to, arresting for or prosecuting any non violent crimes.  That combined with a bunch of unattended hardware there will be plenty of opportunities to tactically requisition a Humvee  :o >:D

It looks like Gov. Raimondo is in panic mode. She is so over her head that it isn't funny. The question is who is her puppeteer.

Isn't it interesting how liberal governors are so fast to jump on the institute martial law bandwagon. I would consider RI National Guard troops in my town as an occupation. LOL.

On another note...Starting now I can only imagine the usual hordes of folks coming down from Fall River Mass. to fish the Sakonnet River's shores in Tiverton, RI and piling into boats to do the same.  :lmfao:  Bad for you Chris but quite the spectacle with a bunch of Portuguese armed with fishing rods fighting the RI National Guard troops.  :lmfao:  I put my money on the Portuguese.

It"s all politics, if the President didn't do it nasty nancy and chuck you shumer along with the radical left wing media would carve him alive. They're already saying he didn't respond soon enough.
I also remember the polio, measles and chicken pox outbreaks. The only difference I see now was there was a moderate news media and radio. Very few people had TV but people were just as afraid then as today. There was no cure for polio or shots for measles and chicken pox.
My father made special shoes for polio victims so I saw a lot of them and my sister and I had everything but polio. She would be the first to get in school and bring it home.
