PRE-1980 CPI - Inflation Now Is 10%+

As many of the readers here at Unchainedpreppers know, the CPI (Consumer Price Index) formula used to calculate inflation has changed five times since the 1980 revision. Using the 1980 formula as pictured above the fold, we can see that we are currently in the 10% inflation range. Keep in mind that during the Carter presidency, the height of inflation was 9.6%.

John Williams' Shadow Government Statistics (http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate_data/inflation-charts) shows our current inflation rate using those two CPI formulas.

To see the changes since the CPI was started in 1919, go here (https://www.bls.gov/cpi/additional-resources/historical-changes.htm)

Please keep in mind that inflation has many different looks. Reduction in quantity's and weights. Increases in tax rates on specific commodities along with new taxes placed on goods and services.

Absolutely insane. I bought my house in April 2020 for $215,000 and, at current prices/sq foot for a ranch, it is now worth between $280,000 and $300,000.

I know people who are bidding $40,000 OVER asking price for homes and getting out bid.

Sell out, haul south, I can fix you up with a nice one, way out in the woods but close enough for everything for a great price.

Although it not being in yankee territory is worth $100K on its own.

Using the 2018 CPI formula, April 2021's inflation is at 4.2%. Yowser! Remember, fuel is not part of the formula.

First the rise, then the fall.

Producer prices post biggest annual increase on record
PPI rose 6.2% year over year
By Jonathan Garber FOXBusiness

Producer prices rose in April at the fastest annual pace on record as the reopening of the U.S. economy from COVID-19 lockdowns continued to gain momentum.

The producer price index for final demand last month rose at a 6.2% annual pace, quickening from March’s 4.2% increase, the Labor Department said Thursday. The April reading made for the biggest annual jump since recordkeeping began in November 2010. On a monthly basis, prices jumped 0.6%, slowing from last month's 1.0% increase.

The annual data has a "base effects" skew due to the price decline that occurred at the onset of the pandemic.

Analysts surveyed by Refinitiv had expected prices to increase 5.9% year over year and 0.3% from March.

Half of the increase in April was due to the 0.5% rise in the index for final demand services less trade, transportation, and warehousing. Meanwhile, prices for final demand goods climbed 0.6%, slowing from the 1.7% advance last month.

Currently stuck where I am at, though depending on the next several months and the resolution of some personal matters, some things may slowly shift.

Amazing how it all seems to be coming apart at once. Great Reset for sure......
