White House: Obama Supports Renewing Assault Weapons Ban ? But Congress Won?t Act

President Obama supports reinstating the assault weapons ban, White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters Monday, on the heels of back-to-back shooting rampages in the United States.

As a presidential candidate, Obama supported renewal of the 1994-2004 federal ban on manufacturing some semi-automatic weapons for civilian use. But he hasn?t pushed for it as president, largely steering clear of the issue.

?He does support renewing the assault weapons ban,? Carney said at his press briefing, one day after a shooter killed six people at a Sikh gurdwara in Wisconsin. In response to several questions, he added that ?there has been reluctance by Congress to pass that renewal.?

Yeah, I"m thinking he's getting re-elected, but why would you mention this AT THIS TIME.  I mean this is the worst strategic time to say something like that about guns, they are the biggest idiots when it comes to strategy like this or maybe his spokesman just said something he wasn't supposed to say in public.  That's probably the more likely thing that happened here.  The admin had been doing a lot of talking about it, and Carney just slipped up and fucked up. 

It could take some votes away from Barry.

Barry has stayed away from this issue as he wanted a second term. Once he gets in things should heat up on the firearm end of things.

Barry has absolutely no scruples and totally hates the Constitution. I can see an executive order coming down the pike. Of course it will be challenged in the SC but based on the last vote on H-Care who knows what will happen.

If you look at Heller, I believe that if Obama the dictator does and E.O. to ban Assault Rifles, and it is challenged Constitutionally, then I truly believe, with this exact Supreme Court that we have right now, I have NO doubt they will rule is Constitutional, under "reasonable restrictions."  I have no doubt in my mind.

Then we are fucked forever.
