in this video i just dont understand why the police stand there and take it... if all there going to do is risk there life for no appearant reason then they might aswell go home...standing in one spot and getting motovs and rocks thrown at them wont accomplish anything.

Fucking orders.
The gov doesn't want to look bad and pay the political price of ordering the police to repress the rioters, but the judges order the police to protect the gov dependencies etc.

So the police agents are between the sword and the wall, they can't return fire, they can't arrest anyone but also they can't go home or will end up in jail and with an administrative summary.

I have seen that millions of times here in Argentina, and my father now retired suffered that shit personally.

Because is really hard to get a new job after being a cop, you are not really instructed to do anything.
Most are low middle class or poor class people with families when they quit police end up as private security in stores or robing banks

Also in shitty crisis times the last thing you want in your life is to lose your job, specially when you have a family to take care
