Amazon - Let The Book Burning Begin!

Earlier this week Amazon, the world's largest seller of print and digital books, has decided to not sell books that they deem as “hate speech”.

From the Amazon release,

Quote
Offensive Content

We don’t sell certain content including content that we determine is hate speech, promotes the abuse or sexual exploitation of children, contains pornography, glorifies rape or pedophilia, advocates terrorism, or other material we deem inappropriate or offensive.

This action by Amazon is called "cancel culture".

The Cambridge dictionary describes cancel culture as,

Quote
a way of behaving in a society or group, especially on social media, in which it is common to completely reject and stop supporting someone because they have said or done something that offends you:

We first saw cancel culture with the changing of words used in speech. Then jump ahead to the attacks that news agencies experienced such as FoxNews, One America News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and most recently Tucker Carlson has experienced. Let us not leave out the toppling of statues and the changing names for our military complexes and even our sports teams.

I strongly suggest if you have favorite books that are being stored electronically, now is the time to buy hard copies. Matt Bracken's Enemies Foreign and Domestic trilogy comes immediately to mind. How about John Ross's, Unintended Consequences or Col. Jeff Cooper's books?

My favorite place to buy books first, is a used bookstore. My next place to buy books is straight from the author. That way we leave Amazon and their ilk out of the purchase all together.

Do not wait. The book burnings are coming. What book (s) are you going to buy a print version of?

I remember hearing someplace that "To Kill a Mockingbird" is on the burn list?

Thanks for the reminder... I need to replace the Bracken trilogy... lending out but failing to record which went to who makes retrieval difficult  :-)   Hopefully they are still circulating.
Hate to tout commercial sites but must admit very good results with the online used books store "Thriftbooks".   One of latest acquisitions from there was "Contact" by "Max Velocity".   A nice feature is that their wish list alerts promptly when an unavailable title becomes available.
Between censorship and actual loss of electronic retrieval/storage, we are rocketing towards a Fahrenheit 451.   Get hard copies NOW!

Might add Heat 1400.

You know, for those who don't go along.

Quote
Human flesh requires extended exposure to 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit in order to ignite. The human body, which is 85 percent water, burns outside to inside in a rapid cycle of layer-by-layer dehydration and ignition. The heat dries out the skin; the dry skin ignites. That fire dries out the next layer of muscle and fat, which then ignites. And so on, until the internal organs are consumed. The average body gives off a modest 1,000 Btu per pound of meat (burning wood, by comparison, gives off 6,000 Btu). But an extremely obese person can run up to 17,000 Btu.
