Looting spreads in Argentina's third largest city as police go on strike

Looting and robbing spread to several areas of the Argentine city of Cordoba on Tuesday evening and night following a walkout from the police in the midst of a conflict over pay and other benefits.

Wow that sucks!

If it was here in the states it would be classified as "a target rich environment".  ;)

I am sorry to say that in parts of the USofA people would think it is their right to loot for any excuse. Can you imagine what it would be like if there was no police?

Oof.  Sorry to hear that!  I hope you and yours are well APX!

I don't think we need to worry about police on strike here so much, JM, as people realizing how small a percentage of the population the police are.  If everyone realized how tenuous that control level is, there might be more folks who'd be willing to blow off the "law and order" thing.

The motherfuckers robbed all the alcohol they could, in the first photo behind the guy with the shopping cart there is a guy with multiple boxes of whisky  and at least two boxes of 6 bottles of fernet, a popular alcoholic beverage here in Argentina.

Also there are reports of bands of around 20 delinquents on motorcycles stealing shops and people in the streets.
Shops robbed were not only food stores but motorcycle parts stores and clothes.
Also a lot of shops were set on fire.

The federal government is in bad terms with the province government so they said that is not their problem, that the Cordoba governor is responsible of the crisis and they have no responsibility whatsoever.

Today the police force of another province called "Santa Fe" threatened about starting a strike also.

@Weelie, thanks for your concern, I'm very far from there and armed to the teeth :D

The motherfuckers are posting on Facebook pictures of what they stole and laughing about that as if it was a joke, I hope someone ends up processed because of this.

Stupid question APX...

I know semi auto's are illegal but how about shotguns and such. Why don't the shop owners protect their shops?

Some groups organized to resist and created barricades, some groups were armed and some shots were fired, other groups only had clubs, people still believes police will save their asses even as everyday they are robbed and killed and the police does nothing about it.

There are not so many guns in the civilian population here as in US, and besides the lootings occurred in one of the major cities of the country, usually people who owns guns lives in more suburban areas or the country.

Big problem is that people is afraid that if they kill someone, the family and friends of the victim will take revenge and kill them, or they will end up in jail, very probable with the fucking current political agenda, were all the delinquents are victims of society who don't know what they are doing...

Is confirmed one 20 yo guy died shot in the chest, also a Chinese owner of a supermarket resisted the looting wounding 2 attackers so the attackers put on fire the shop and the owner died asphyxiated inside, and a 85 yo man died of a heart attack when a motorcycle gang robbed his house, there are more than 200 wounded but there are not details about the injuries.

EDIT: Only semi auto rifles are banned, semi auto pistols and shotguns can be owned.

So are fire departments responding, or are they on strike too?  Man, I hate that this is happening down there.  I guess it can happen anywhere.

Situation lasted only for a night, then the police agreed with the governor and they quit the strike, the looting lasted 24 hs and around 1000 shops were looted.

Fire departments were working, but the same as the ambulances, if the AO isn't secure they won't act.
