Amazon - Let The Book Burning Begin!
Earlier this week Amazon, the world's largest seller of print and digital books, has decided to not sell books that they deem as “hate speech”.
From the
Amazon release,
Offensive Content
We don’t sell certain content including content that we determine is hate speech, promotes the abuse or sexual exploitation of children, contains pornography, glorifies rape or pedophilia, advocates terrorism, or other material we deem inappropriate or offensive.
This action by Amazon is called
"cancel culture".
The Cambridge dictionary describes
cancel culture as,
a way of behaving in a society or group, especially on social media, in which it is common to completely reject and stop supporting someone because they have said or done something that offends you:
We first saw cancel culture with the changing of words used in speech. Then jump ahead to the attacks that news agencies experienced such as FoxNews, One America News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and most recently Tucker Carlson has experienced. Let us not leave out the toppling of statues and the changing names for our military complexes and even our sports teams.
I strongly suggest if you have favorite books that are being stored electronically, now is the time to buy hard copies. Matt Bracken's
Enemies Foreign and Domestic trilogy comes immediately to mind. How about John Ross's,
Unintended Consequences or Col. Jeff Cooper's books?
My favorite place to buy books first, is a used bookstore. My next place to buy books is straight from the author. That way we leave Amazon and their ilk out of the purchase all together.
Do not wait. The book burnings are coming. What book (s) are you going to buy a print version of?
