Greece debt by comparison.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/chart-america-s-capita-government-debt-worse-greece_631797.html

Sometimes words just don't show things as clearly as a colorful chart.  :o

When viewing keep in mind Greece's current population is only around 11 million.

Ireland's is about 6 million.

And of course the USA is about 310 million...........

How does it stack up in terms of the size of the economy, though? The US has a large economy.

Course we have to keep in mind some of the blatant lies in the USA stats like unemployment numbers and total debt.

Yup!

A more honest interpretation of the number is the US's Median Income to Debt per Capita is around 70%.

Greece's is around 40%.

This is our and their perceived ability to pay back the debt.
