I hope SOPA passes.

Quote
Because that's exactly what we need to wake up from this slumbering, do-nothing, "occupy everything," stagnant, non-action slump we Americans are in.

"Protest schemes that don't cost the participants any inconvenience, hardship or money remain the most popular, despite their ineffectiveness."
-Snopes
We're a country where people think that...

Boycotting gas for a day makes a difference. It doesn't. Delaying when you buy gas by a day only broadcasts your intentions to oil speculators so they can profit. And the oil still gets purchased a day before or after anyway.

Neurotically recycling every single shred of garbage in your home makes a difference. It doesn't. Even if you, your neighbors, and everyone you've ever met recycled everything and reduced your waste output to zero, it wouldn't even make an observable impact on overall waste production in the world. Household waste and garden residue account for less than 3% of all waste produced in the US. That's less than the average statistical margin of error, and most people don't even come close to producing zero waste.

Changing your profile picture on Facebook will get people to: A) stop abusing kids B) stop molesting kids C) stop killing kids and D) do anything.

Signing an online petition, or changing the front page of your website to protest SOPA will fix anything.

thats a scary thing to invite though..thats a gamble im not sure im willing to take... i think america is weak and full of pussies... and i know i sound like some pissed off french dude but i really think at the end of the day well end up in line for the slaughter like any other. America wont rise to the ocassion, well cower on the ground. the people who use to stand up and say no are either dead or a senior citizen. the new generations are all weak.

Last I checked there are a lot of people who.do not have there senior citizens card that do plenty of heroic and dangerous stuff everyday . I'm sure alot of them wouldnt bow down

I have to be honest, that I don't think even SOPA would wake up the dumb masses.  It would take the government coming in and kill people and hauling them away to death camps before the dumb masses would wake up, I promise.

SHTF or WROL will be the wake up, no huge percent of the dumb masses will wake up before then.

Waaaaa, this genaration is blind and asleep, Waaaaa my rights are in danger, Waaaaa SOPA sux. WTF!!!!!!!!
The second amendment isnt used untill needed other than that its pretty words on a sheet of vellum. And we sure as hell dont need the legions of pussies and sheeple to keep what we have. We just need Around three percent of people to grab their balls or wear their ovaries on the out side for a while to remind this country what we are really about and who the Guberment really works for.

LOL!  No offense, but every time I see that 3% thing I get amused.  If it weren't for the fact that England was tied up in a war with the French things would probably be a little different today.  If fact, if I remember correctly, after the war with France was over.  When we started some shit with the British in Canada because they were grabbing our sailors, they promptly came down and burned Washington to the ground.  Of course after that they tried the same in Baltimore.  Fort McHenry held and we got the Star Spangled Banner.

Yeah for our team!   :)

Edit:  I thought I would continue with this story as it kinda ties into your citizen soldier theme.  After the loss in Baltimore the British decided to try New Orleans with the thought that they could drive their forces up the Mississippi.  General Stonewall Jackson with a small contingent of regulars asked for volunteers to help defend the city.

Everyone in the city helped build the defenses and citizen volunteers of every creed started pouring into the city.  Although vastly outnumbered by the British forces, they decimated the elite British forces by using superior tactics and weapons.  Namely by firing long rifles from behind fortifications while the British marched forward in splendid columns to their death.  If I remember correctly, the British lost 2/3's of their troops in that battle against what were in actuality your average American men of the day.

Sledge i always appreciate your input and I'm not tryin to be a dick. But i have to say that your facts are slightly off. It was Andrew jackson (later president Jackson 7th pres) at the battle of NO(Stonewall was civil war). And that battle took place well after the revolution. It was a little easier for the citezens of that new republic to go out and risk it all for what they already had. And you are using battles from the war of 1812. The climate was quite different than that of the revolution. More than 3% involved themselves in the war of 1812. And yes the British were spread thin throughout the world, during the revolution, which did contribute to our success. But is the US gov not spread thin through out the world now. Even if we were able to force the gov to stop sticking their noses into the affairs of other countries and concentrate on matters at home i would consider it a victory for this country. That 3% thing may be a joke to some, but to me(even if it isn't accurate) tells me that a few can stand for many. I'm not trying to get into a pissing match with anyone but it just seems that people, even here are giving into dispare and giving up. Sry I just find whining a little annoying....

LOL! Yeah you are right about Stonewall.  Thanks for the correction.  It was Andrew Jackson, Stonewall's father, in New Orleans.  (I'm playing.)  LOL!

I think you are right about how things start.  Usually it's a small event which provides the breaking point on the camel's back.  A small group confronts a larger group for change.  It's a spark that starts a larger fire as more people say "enough".

We'll see if a spark ever starts here.  I'm pretty convinced that the spark would come from those wanting to change the current dynamics.  Whether those who start the spark will be ordinary citizens or others looking for a way to increase more government control remains to be seen.

well the thing about the revolutionary war is all they had to do was get Brittan to fuck off and leave, where as in the case now would be much harder because they arent  based from across the pond their all right here right now

i see it more like china where you get a couple groups who all rose up and not only took on the existing power they also fought the shit out of each other
much bloodier

Yeah, if anything ever kicks off, its going to be a whole lot more bloodier than the Revolution, think more along the lines of the Civil War, maybe worse.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on that one EJR. I dont think that it absolutly has to be exsesivly bloody. From my point of veiw, I think that it would almost have to be a small scale physical fight, with a large scale propaganda and diplomacy aspect. I say this based upon the simple fact that no one can go toe to toe with the US military and expect to prevail. I only see large scale fighting in this country in a TEOTWAWKI situation, where their is no ROL to be had. But a revolution doesnt have to be house to house fighting in suburbia. I would say think Surgical. Of course im simply speculating on this matter. and Americans fighting Americans is not something I want to see in any way shape or form. But I just dont see large scale revolution as a viable way to return the constitution to primecy, and restore the freedoms of this country. But hey Its just acidemic speculation on my part.

I don't see that ever happening, WJ.  I think we might see a total collapse before we ever see a revolution.  Nobody has the balls.

If it ever does happen, they'll have my full support.

Yeah i would say we have better odds of toatal colapse, rather than a revolution. But i could see a colapse leading to sedition and revolution. Hopefully we never find out. I mean the last thing i want to contend with in a long term colapse situation, is a freaking war. Id rather get kicked in the nutz twice a day than deal with that shit.....
