... as the old saying tells us, "You can never go home again.
To much water (with mRNA pesticides, sour milk, foreign ideologies and out-of-control immigration) has flowed under old America's covered bridges.
We are now the "New Romans", the heart and soul of our old Republic ripped apart, quite bereft of any salvation barring a series of miracles.
I've taken to studying the "Dark Ages" that followed the collapse of the Roman Empire. And while much of their civilization and bounty was lost in that quickening, some good elements survived and were nurtured in islands of organization (mostly those of the Christian Church of Rome) In the following centuries, the Abbey/Monastery system in England provided a good deal of the platform by which Henry the VIII enjoyed his successes (not the least of which was to tell the Pope to stuff it so that he, Henry, could usurp the wealth and organizations across his island). What a guy. What a way to make out _ahead_ in matters financial, political _and_ marriage/divorce!
Oh well.
Seems every day that the deck is reshuffled - best we can do is play the hand dealt us as well as we are able. History will grind right over the top of us one way or another... and if more than the dust of our bones is to be carried forward, it will be the values we live, demonstrate and pass forward to whomever might pick them up.
Values survive longer than individuals. They have so far. I think they will continue to do so, even through the darkness that descends presently.
