Family rescues kidnap victim, kills abductor
After the estranged boyfriend of Bethany Arceneaux kidnapped her on Wednesday, the victim’s family chose not to rely on local police to find her.
In a scene out of a movie, they discovered her ex-boyfriend, Scott Thomas, torturing Bethany in an abandoned home in Duson, Louisiana on Friday. Arceneaux’s family then shot Thomas dead to prevent her from being killed as he stabbed her, family members told KLFY television.
Thomas, also 29, allegedly abducted Bethany near a day care center, leaving their 2-year-old child abandoned inside Bethany’s vehicle.
About a dozen family members participated in the search and rescue, searching the area she had been last seen with four-wheelers and ATVs. Family members captured much of the search on video. Images of the 29-year-old being cradled by her uncle Marcus Arceneaux as he placed her in a car have begun circulating. The Lafayette Parish police are investigating the shooting.

Perhaps things like this will end up being more commonplace when the economy goes to hell.

Good job to the family who rescued and good fucking riddance to that dirtbag :deadHorse:

I'm glad they were able to get to him, and it seems that they didn't do anything the police would not have done, but finding vigilantism culturally acceptable as a whole can be a slippery slope. Think Hatfields and McCoys.
-
Good job.
rah, shooting an attacker is called self defense, shooting him when he is no threat because he kidnapped his wife, is called vigilantism. There should be no confusion between the two.

Like I said, they didn't do anything that the police would not have done. I was referring to Deathstyle's comment regarding it possibly becoming commonplace when things go south.
"Vigilante justice" is rationalized by the idea that adequate legal mechanisms for criminal punishment are either nonexistent or insufficient. Vigilantes typically see government as ineffective in enforcing the law; and such individuals often presume to justify their actions as fulfillment of the wishes of "the community".
- Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigilante)
Vigilante justice, especially in times of SHTF, will be necessary to keep basic law and order in cases where accepted law enforcement is overwhelmed or nonexistent. There will be bad or desperate people doing bad and desperate things, and someone will have to stand up for what's right. That may or may not result in deaths. I'm just making the point that there needs to be caution, as a push for justice can easily turn into a lynch mob if people don't keep their heads on straight. That's all.

Justice was served. Enjoy hell asshole.
