Beat cops in Japan carry revolvers in flapped holsters. Knife crime is far more common, although there are a fair amount of handguns floating around.
Waiting for the War Department to wake up so I can get her take on it, she's likely going home for the rest of the summer next week. My father-in-law really liked Abe, but a fair number of Japanese people thought he was too close to the US. At least he was willing to tell the Chicoms to pound sand, and did a lot to build up their military, including buying Aegis radars for several of their destroyers to be able to take down Nork or Chinese missiles.
That guy is going to wish for death, the Japanese court system has a conviction rate over 98%, and their jails really, really suck. He's gonna have a bad time.
